במענה על מכתבו מיו"ד כסלו, התענגתי לשמוע מפעולותיו הטובות בשדה חינוך הכשר, ובטח יוסיף אומץ בזה, וידוע מאמר רז"ל פתחו לי פתח כחודו של מחט ואני אפתח לכם כפתחו של אולם, אשר על ידי התחלת הפעולה דאתערותא דלתתא מסייעין בידו הרבה והרבה שיהי' הפעולות בהצלחה ויראה פרי טוב בעמלו.

אסיים בברכתי להכנסת בנו שלמה שי' לחדר - שיזכו לגדלו לתורה ולחופה ולמעשים טובים מתוך הרחבה וכפי שנתבאר בתורת החסידות, ויקויים בו מש"כ במדרש תנחומא פ' קדושים עה"פ ונטעתם כל עץ מאכל, מדבר בתינוק כו', ובשנה הרביעית יהי' כל פריו קדש שאביו מקדישו לתורה, הילולים להוי' מהו הילולים משעה שמהלל הקב"ה ובשנה החמישית תאכלו את פריו משעה שמתחיל לקרות בתורה, להוסיף לכם תבואתו - מכאן שנו רבותינו בן חמש שנים למקרא כו'. ועייג"כ הל' ת"ת לרבינו הזקן בתחילתו, ובלקו"ת על הפסוק הנ"ל.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from the 10th of Kislev, I was delighted to hear of your good activities in the field of kosher education. Surely you will continue to strengthen this work. It is known what our Sages said: "Open for Me an opening like the eye of a needle and I will open for you an opening like a hall," meaning that when one initiates action from below, much assistance is given so that one's efforts are successful and one sees good fruit from his labor.
The pan and list enclosed in your letter I read, as you requested, at the resting place of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe hk"m on Erev Rosh Chodesh Teves. And as it is said about a tzaddik who has passed away—that he is found in this world even more than during his lifetime—surely he has given his blessing, and may Hashem fulfill it both materially and spiritually...
I conclude with my blessing for your son Shlomo's entry into cheder—that you merit to raise him to Torah, marriage, and good deeds with abundance as explained in Chassidus. May it be fulfilled in him as written in Midrash Tanchuma Parshas Kedoshim on the verse "u'netatem kol etz ma'achal" (and you shall plant every food tree), which refers to a child; in the fourth year all its fruit shall be holy when his father dedicates him to Torah—songs of praise to Hashem; and in the fifth year you shall eat its fruit—from when he begins reading Torah—to increase its yield for you. From here our Sages taught: at five years old [one begins] Mikra (Scripture) etc. See also Hilchos Talmud Torah by Rabbeinu HaZaken at its beginning and Likkutei Torah on this verse.
Enclosed is the booklet for Chanukah with a general letter relevant to it; although it was delayed somewhat, its content truly applies throughout the entire year.
