קבלתי מכתבו עם הפדיון נפש וכבקשתו קראתיו על ציון כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ בשאלתו להתברך בזרעא חייא וקיימא.
וצדיקא דאתפטר, דאשתכח בהאי עלמא יתיר מבחיוהי - כמבואר בזהר ח"ג דף ע"א - יעורר עליו רחמים למלא משאלות לבבו לטוב.
אתענין לדעת מה היא עצת הרופאים בזה, ולפי דעתי צריך הוא וגם זוג' תי' לשאול בעצת הרופאים ולעשות כהוראתם.
ועוד הצעתי עפ"י מאמר המגיד ממעזריטש ותלמידו אדמו"ר הזקן בעל התניא והשו"ע כשביקש אצלו על בן זכר וענה לו בלשון הכתוב במה יזכה נער (במה יזכה לבן זכר) את ארחו (על ידי מצות הכנסת אורחים), ויהי רצון אשר על ידי לימוד התורה וקיום המצוות בכלל והשתדלות במצות הכנסת אורחים בפרט, גם על ידי אחיזה בדרכי הטבע על ידי מילוי הוראת מומחה במקצוע זה, יזכה לזרעא חייא וקיימא בבן זכר. ואשמח להתבשר בשורות טובות ממנו בזה.
אתענין לדעת פרטי עסקנותו הציבורית אשר בטח משתדל לזכות את הרבים באופן המתאים.

I received your letter with the pidyon nefesh and, as you requested, I read it at the resting place of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe hk"m, regarding your request to be blessed with living and enduring offspring. The righteous one who has passed on is found in this world even more than during his lifetime—as explained in Zohar III p.71—will arouse mercy upon you to fulfill the desires of your heart for good.
I am interested to know what the doctors advise in this matter. In my opinion, both you and your wife should consult with doctors and follow their guidance.
I also suggest, based on the teaching of the Maggid of Mezritch and his student Admor HaZaken (the author of Tanya and Shulchan Aruch), that when he was asked for a blessing for a male child he answered with the verse 'Bameh Yizkeh Na'ar' (how will a youth merit—a hint to merit a male child) 'Et Orcho' (by fulfilling the mitzvah of hospitality). May it be G‑d's will that through Torah study and mitzvah observance in general—and especially by striving in the mitzvah of hospitality—as well as by following natural means through fulfilling an expert's instructions in this field, you will merit living and enduring offspring in a male child.
