במענה על מכתבו מט"ו מנ"א, בו כותב אשר רוצה להתכתב בענינים הנוגעים לאחינו הדתיים בכלל ולמוסדות חב"ד אנ"ש והתמימים שי' בפרט; אלא שמבקש הסכמה.
הנה מובן שאין צריך בזה להסכמה וכידוע פסק תורתנו הק' תורת חיים אשר כל מי שיש בידו להועיל באיזה ענין של תורה ומצות חוב וזכות קדוש עליו לעשות זה, כי כל ישראל ערבים זה בזה, והבאת תועלת אפשר בכמה אופנים, ומהם מה שנאמר ותשועה ברוב יועץ שהוא כלל גדול בהנהגת אדם...
לפלא שאינו מזכיר דבר ע"ד שיעוריו בתורת הנגלה ושעוריו בתורת החסידות ועסקנותו בכרם חב"ד, כי זה כל האדם וכמ"ש את האלקים ירא ואת מצותיו שמור גו', וע"ז מסרו נפשם רבותינו הק' לנטוע זה בתוך החסידים והשייכים אליהם ושעל ידם תגיע הנהגה זו לכל ישראל ובפרט שכותב שהי' תלמיד בתומכי תמימים, והרי ידוע פתגם רבנו הזקן אשר למדן אין פרושו שהי' זמן שלמד וכו' והוא הדין לתואר חסיד שאין פירושו שהי' זמן שהי' חסיד ואין לו להקדש אלא מקומו וזמנו.
בודאי יודע משלשת השיעורים השוים לכל נפש מתקנת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר בחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים ועכ"פ ישמור אותם מכאן ולהבא.

In response to your letter from the 15th of Menachem Av, in which you write that you wish to correspond about matters concerning our religious brethren in general and the Chabad institutions, Anash and the Temimim in particular; but you request approval for this. It is understood that no approval is needed for this, as is well known from the ruling of our holy Torah, the Torah of life: whoever is able to help in any matter of Torah and mitzvot has a sacred obligation and privilege to do so, for all Israel are responsible for one another. Bringing benefit can be accomplished in many ways, among them what is said: 'salvation comes with many counselors,' which is a great principle in guiding a person...
It is surprising that you do not mention anything about your studies in Nigleh (revealed Torah), your studies in Chassidus, or your involvement in the Chabad vineyard. For this is the essence of man, as it is written: 'Fear G‑d and keep His commandments,' and our holy Rebbes gave their lives to instill this within chassidim and those connected to them so that through them this conduct would reach all Israel—especially since you write that you were a student at Tomchei Temimim. It is well known the saying of Rabbeinu HaZaken that being a scholar does not mean there was once a time when he studied, etc., and similarly with the title chassid—it does not mean there was once a time when he was a chassid; holiness only applies to its place and time.
You surely know about the three daily study portions established by my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe—Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya—and at least from now on you should observe them.
