במענה על מכתבו מה' אמור אשר קרא שם בנם הנולד להם... שי'. הנה יה"ר מהשי"ת שכשם שהכניסוהו לברית כן יכניסוהו לתורה ולחופה ולמעשים טובים.
ומה שכותב בענין סגולה, הנה יבדקו המזוזות בביתם שיהיו כולן כשרות וכן את התפילין שלו, ובודאי מניח או עכ"פ יניח מעתה תפילין דרבנו תם ובמילא יבדוק גם אותם, והוא וזוגתו שיחיו יפרישו בכל יום שני וחמישי בבקר איזה פרוטות לצדקה נוסף על מה שבודאי זוגתו תחי' מפרישה לצדקה קודם הדלקת הנרות בכל עש"ק וערב יום טוב. והרי צדקה סגולה היא שמגינה בפני כל וכמ"ש וילבש צדקה כשריון וידוע דרז"ל על זה שנתבארה גם כן באגרת הקדש לרבנו הזקן סי' ג'. והשי"ת יזכהו לבשר טוב תכה"י.

In response to your letter from Parshas Emor in which you wrote that you named your newborn son... may he live. May it be the will of Hashem that just as you brought him into the covenant, so too may you bring him to Torah, marriage, and good deeds.
Regarding what you wrote about a segulah: check the mezuzos in your home to ensure they are all kosher, as well as your tefillin. Certainly you already put on—or at least from now on will put on—Tefillin of Rabbeinu Tam; therefore, check those as well. You and your wife should set aside a few coins for tzedaka every Monday and Thursday morning in addition to what your wife certainly gives before lighting candles every Erev Shabbos and Erev Yom Tov.
Tzedaka is a segulah that protects against everything, as it is written: 'Vayilbash tzedakah kashiryon' ("And he wore righteousness like armor")—and it is known what our Sages said about this, which is also explained in Igeres HaKodesh of Rabbeinu HaZaken, section 3. May Hashem grant you the merit to share good news soon.
