דער גענויער טייטש פון ראש השנה איז די קאפ פון יאהר, ערקלערען אונזערע חכמים אז פארוואס ווערט עס אנגערופען ניט תחלת - אנהייבס - השנה, נאר ראש השנה, ווייל אזוי ווי די קאפ פיהרט אן מיט דעם גאנצען קערפער, אזוי דארפמען אויך די גוטע רעזלושאנס און פיהרונגען וואס מען נעמט אן אויף זיך ראש השנה, אנפיהרען מיטן גאנצען יאהר.
דעם יאהר קומט אויס ראש השנה, שבת. וואס דער געדאנק פון שבת איז - אז דאמאלסט הייבט זיך אויף דער מענש העכער פון זיין וואכעדיגען לעבען און דאגות, און ווערט נעהענטער צום נשמה לעבען.
און דאס איז אויך אונזער וואונש אז אין דעם נייעם יאהר זאלען מיר אלע גייען פארווערטס אין אונזער גייסטיגער ענטוויקלונג, מאכען נעהענטער דעם גוף צו נשמה און דורכפיהרען אין לעבען אלע אונזערע גוטע מחשבות.

א) דייק רבנו בלשונו תענית של תשובה, כי דוקא תענית של תקוני תשובה יכול לפדות בממון לצדקה אם מצטער הרבה, אבל אם קבל עליו תענית דרך נדר, צריך לקיים נדרו, וכמ"ש בשו"ע או"ח סי' תקס"ח סס"ב.

In the name of Kehot and in my own name I want to wish you and all yours a good and sweet year and success in all your undertakings. The precise meaning of Rosh Hashanah is 'the head of the year.' Our Sages explain that it is not called 'the beginning' (techilat) of the year but rather 'the head' (rosh) because just as the head leads the entire body, so too should the good resolutions and conduct we accept upon ourselves on Rosh Hashanah lead us throughout the whole year.
This year, Rosh Hashanah falls on Shabbat. The idea of Shabbat is that at this time a person rises above their weekday life and worries, becoming closer to a life of the soul. This is also our wish: that in this new year we should all progress in our spiritual development, bring body closer to soul, and actualize all our good thoughts in life.
