Harsh Words and Coercion Are Not Desired Even for Positive Change

Shalom u'Vrachah!

... And a main point, which is in addition to what was conveyed to him by the haraha"ch etc. Moharachma"a Sheyichye Chadakov via telephone: I do not understand his conduct at all regarding what was reported to me about the lack of eating, speaking, etc. Certainly he has some reason for this, but since the woman is now present and women are more sensitive by nature, and even to change to better behavior — behold, not through coercion with words and whips does Hashem desire this. This is in addition to the directive of the Baal Shem Tov, the Maggid, and our Rebbe the Alter Rebbe, etc., that it is absolutely necessary to guard one's physical health, as also explained in the maamar of Yud Shevat last year; elaborating on this is unnecessary. It is already known from Chassidus that Yaakov could have chosen even non-kosher animals for his gift (even though this resembles offering sacrifices), because before Matan Torah there were various ways; but after Maamad Har Sinai what was forbidden became forbidden and there is no room for leniency (except for a prophet who heard a command from Hashem against this as a temporary measure — obviously I do not suspect him of this). I await good news that from now on there will be peace in their home and they will increase both physical and spiritual health, and may Hashem grant them success.

With blessing — awaiting good news.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that positive change should be achieved through gentle means rather than harsh words or force. Maintaining both physical and spiritual well-being is essential, and peace in the home should be pursued with kindness and understanding.
