במענה על מכתבו בו מודיע אשר מלאו לבנו יוסף יצחק שי' שלש שנים בכ"ג בניסן.
והנה אף שיש למצוא היתר לעשות התספורת בימי הספירה, ובמכש"כ [מ]מה שהתירו לעשות זה בחול המועד (עיין שערי תשובה או"ח סי' תקל"א) (בכ"ז ובפרט עפמ"ש בפע"ח בביאור גזיזת השערות בימי הספירה) לדעתי כדאי לעשות התספורת בל"ג בעומר ובפרט שמנהג בנ"י לגזוז שערות תינוקות ביום זה, והשי"ת יצליחו שביחד עם זוגתו - שיחיו - יגדלו את כל ילידיהם שיחיו לתורה ולחופה ולמעשים טובים מתוך הרחבת הדעת.

In response to your letter in which you inform me that your son Yosef Yitzchak turned three years old on the 23rd of Nissan.
Although there is an allowance to perform a haircut during the days of Sefirah—and all the more so since it is permitted to do so on Chol HaMoed (see Shaarei Teshuvah Orach Chaim section 531)—nevertheless (especially according to what is explained in Pri Etz Chaim regarding cutting hair during Sefirah), in my opinion it is preferable to do the haircut on Lag BaOmer, particularly since it is the custom among Bnei Yisrael to cut a child's hair on this day. May Hashem grant you success that together with your wife you should raise all your children to Torah, marriage, and good deeds with peace of mind.
