Atteres Rosh

ספר עטרת ראש

The book Atteres Rosh was authored by the Mitteler Rebbe (Rabbi Dovber Schneuri) in the year 1820 (תק"פ), focusing on topics related to Rosh Hashanah, the Ten Days of Repentance, and Yom Kippur.

In his introduction to the book, the Mitteler Rebbe explains the purpose of publishing this discourse: "Since every person is free from his affairs on each festival and holiday, he can prepare his heart and soul to know a little about the reason and secret of Hashem concerning the holiday and direct his heart to Hashem, to illuminate his soul with the light of the King of Life’s countenance, as much as his soul can bear."

In the notes of Rabbi Baruch Shneerson, it is recorded that the Rebbe Rashab instructed that this book be studied each year during the High Holidays.

This book held great significance among the Rebbes of the broader Chassidic world. For example, Rabbi Avraham Mordechai Alter, the Imrei Emes of Ger, had a custom of signing every book he studied from cover to cover. However, he signed this book twice...

Publishing History

The first edition of the book was printed during the lifetime of the Mitteler Rebbe in Kapust in the year 1821 (תקפ"א). Another edition was printed in Johannesburg, without a specified year of publication, followed by several more printings, also without indication of the year. In 1948 (תש"ח), Kehot in Munich published the book based on the Johannesburg edition, with editing overseen by the Rebbe. A revised edition, including an index of topics, verses, and Rabbinic teachings, was published in 1989 (תשמ"ט) by Kehot in New York, edited by Rabbi Gabriel Shapiro. A second printing of this edition appeared in 2003 (תשס"ג)
