The Rebbe's guidance about Jerusalem — living there, its holiness, and Jewish life in the Holy City:
Living in Jerusalem. Living in Jerusalem brings a special responsibility to increase one's own holiness and to spread Judaism and Chassidus there (IK 6350, 8658). Settling in Jerusalem carries great merit, together with spiritual criteria for how one lives there (IK 10656, 10229). Moving to the Jewish Quarter brings both material and spiritual responsibility (IK 10798). Living in the Holy Land calls for daily conduct befitting it, influenced by the Western Wall (IK 10696). Praying in Jerusalem carries special significance (IK 10260). On remaining in Jerusalem and dedicating one's efforts to spreading Torah, see IK 1523.
The holiness of the city. Maintaining Jerusalem's holiness requires vigilance, above all in Shabbos observance (IK 6141), and steadfastness in protecting its sanctity despite outside pressure (IK 9725). Communal action and public pressure against harmful decrees in Jerusalem are legitimate and effective (IK 10172). On Jerusalem's status and public policy, see IK 9445, 9549, 10005 — these letters express the Rebbe's own position on political questions.
Jewish life in the city. Simchas Torah in Jerusalem unites all Jews (IK 9579, 9760, 10237, 10568). Tefillin at the Western Wall has a lasting impact (IK 9449). The Tzemach Tzedek shul in the Old City should be restored promptly, with unity, transparency and proper committee leadership (IK 9478, 9521, 9532, 9580, 9586). Strengthen existing Chabad institutions in Jerusalem before starting new ones (IK 10766), and manage their finances transparently (IK 10291).
