Shalom u'Vrachah!
Rabbi Sh.Z. Kahana shiyichyeh.
Shalom u'Vrachah! Certainly you are already aware of my position regarding several matters in our holy city, especially concerning Jerusalem Ir HaKodesh and its sacred sites—both the Old City and what is called the New City, including Har Tzion.
In this connection, it gave me great satisfaction to hear from my conversation with Rabbi Zerah shiyichyeh Warhaftig, who told me about the many adventures regarding various parts of Har Tzion and the various unusual legal claims from Arab families, etc., and that thanks to your efforts and persistence you were able to reject their demands and pressure.
The purpose of this letter is not so much to inform you of my satisfaction—which is self-evident—nor to express thanks, for fulfilling a mitzvah does not require thanks from flesh and blood; on the contrary, it diminishes the greatness of fulfilling the mitzvah—especially such a matter as that concerning Har Tzion, etc. Rather—and mainly—since I have heard that there are those who wish to increase pressure regarding the holy places in Jerusalem Ir HaKodesh, both from secularists and from supporters of the Arabs (even if not for its own sake), but such support leads to negative consequences including security issues—I wish to add my encouragement from afar (though close in essence), that you will certainly stand firm in your aforementioned stance, and moreover increase your efforts in this matter.
May it be G‑d's will that you succeed even more than expected. And it goes without saying that I would be pleased to hear good news about all these matters.
Summary
The Rebbe emphasizes steadfastness in protecting Jerusalem's sanctity despite external pressures and highlights that fulfilling such mitzvos needs no human thanks but should be pursued with persistence for their own sake.
