These are the Rebbe's letters to individuals about their own situations. Throughout, the Rebbe instructed people to consult an expert doctor and follow his guidance; anyone facing a medical question should do the same.
The Rebbe's guidance for a healthy pregnancy and birth:
Keep the news private until the fifth month, sharing it only with the doctor and those close to you (IK 9095, 9473, 10690).
Follow the doctor's guidance. Consult an expert on matters of childbirth (IK 10915). Don't be frightened by medical opinions about possible complications; follow the non-invasive advice and avoid drastic measures (IK 1576). Where medical opinions differ, seek guidance from a rav who knows how to weigh them (IK 10946). Even after past difficulties, trust that improved care will bring a good outcome (IK 3108).
Spiritual preparation: say the specific chapters of Tehillim the Rebbe recommended each day (IK 1315); check the tefillin and mezuzos (IK 1626, 9473, 10651); give tzedakah before candle lighting on Shabbos and Yom Tov (IK 1522, 1626); be careful in taharas hamishpacha (IK 10651, 10915); and keep up regular Torah study through the pregnancy (IK 9473, 10604).
A calm, positive frame of mind. Stay occupied, don't dwell on worries, and ignore unfounded fears, including from dreams (IK 10328, 10695). A mother's physical and emotional state has a real effect on her unborn child (IK 10226). Strengthen trust in Hashem (IK 1522).
Customs: the husband opens the ark discreetly during the Torah reading until after the birth (IK 1973). On the segulah name associated with pregnancy, see IK 1949. After childbirth, a woman need not change her custom of reading the Rebbe's sichos (IK 1327).
