The Rebbe's guidance on buying a home, property and investments:

Buying a home is preferable to renting, when possible. Before buying, consult experts, look carefully into local conditions and the stability of the neighborhood, and be sensitive to how the purchase is perceived in the community (IK 5955, 6151, 6204, 6215, 6837). Arrange a heter iska for a mortgage (IK 2256). When buying a home, set aside a little more than a tenth of each payment for tzedakah (IK 3185).

Moving into a new home: acquiring a home has spiritual meaning, and a new home brings new mazal (IK 608, 2256). Bring in sefarim first, and affix the mezuzos right away (IK 1686, 3182, 3972). Moving after the 15th of Av is ideal where possible, and on a suitable day of the week, such as Tuesday (IK 2849, 5716, 7388). Inaugurate the home with a chassidishe gathering and Torah study, and make it a home of warmth and Torah (IK 886, 939, 496).

Investments. Before investing in a new business, get reliable guidance (IK 611). The Rebbe discouraged speculative ventures such as trading in shares (IK 8438). Sometimes selling property outright is better than entering a partnership (IK 1631). On selling land in Eretz Yisrael to cover wedding costs, see IK 6188; property that was used for Torah education should not be sold for uses that contradict it (IK 5057).
