במענה על מכתבו - מבלי הוראת זמן הכתיבה - בו כותב.
א) שקנה חצי בית יותר יפה - חליפין ביתו עד עתה, ונדמה לו אשר מאז עניניו אינם מצליחים כדבעי.
וצריך הי' לברר, אם לא הי' בקנייתו ענין דארז"ל עני המהפך בחררה ובא אחר כו' - היינו השגת גבול, כן מהנכון לברר מפני מה מכר הקודם לו חצי בית זה. ובכל אופן הנה יבדקו את התפילין שלו וכן את המזוזות שמשתמש בהם בביתו זה, ובלי נדר יפריש בכל יום חול קודם התפלה בבקר איזה פרוטות לצדקה, וזכות התעסקותו בבית הכנסת, שבודאי משתמש בהשפעתו להרבות שם תפלה ותורה, ירבה ברכת השי"ת והצלחתו בהמצטרך לו גם בעניניו הפרטים ובביתו החדשה.
ב) בהנוגע למקום ההתועדות ביום הבר מצוה של בנו הבכור שי',
הנה יערוך בבית הכנסת שם הוא משמש גבאי, ובודאי יאמר בנו גם דבר תורה, ומה טוב שיהי' בהם גם ענין מתורת החסידות, שעל ידי זה יתאחדו כל השלשה קוין, תורה, עבודה (זו תפלה) וגמילות חסדים שזהו תוכן הפנימי של פנימיות התורה, וכידוע פתגם רבנו הזקן בעל התניא - פוסק בנסתר דתורה - והשולחן ערוך - פוסק בנגלה דתורה, אשר ואהבת את ה' אלקיך ואהבת לרעך כמוך, חד הוא.

In response to your letter—without indication of when it was written—in which you write: (a) that you bought half a house more beautiful than your previous one (having exchanged your former home), and it seems to you that since then your affairs have not been as successful as they should be. It is necessary to clarify whether there was any issue in the purchase related to what our Sages say: "A poor man turns over a cake and another comes..."—that is, an infringement of boundaries. It is also proper to clarify why the previous owner sold this half-house. In any case, have your tefillin and the mezuzot used in this house checked. Without making a vow, set aside some coins for tzedakah every weekday morning before prayer. The merit of your involvement with the synagogue—where you surely use your influence to increase prayer and Torah study—will increase G‑d's blessing and your success in all you need, both in your personal matters and in your new home.
(b) Regarding the location of the farbrengen on the bar mitzvah day of your eldest son: hold it at the synagogue where you serve as gabbai. Surely your son will also say words of Torah; it would be even better if these include something from Chassidus. Through this all three pillars—Torah, avodah (which is prayer), and acts of kindness—will be united; this is the inner content of the inner dimension of Torah. As is known from the saying of our master the Alter Rebbe (author of Tanya)—the halachic authority in the hidden dimension of Torah—and the Shulchan Aruch—the halachic authority in the revealed dimension—that 'Ve'ahavta es Hashem Elokecha ve'ahavta l'reiacha kamocha chad hu' (You shall love Hashem your G‑d and you shall love your fellow as yourself—they are one).
