נעם לי לקבל הידיעה ע"י הרה"ח הוו"ח אי"א נו"נ עוסק בצ"צ מוה"ר... אשר ימים אלו נותן הוא דמי קדימה לקנין בית. ויהי רצון מהשי"ת אשר בשעה טובה ומוצלחת יעתיקו דירתם לשם ויהי' משנה מזל לתוספת ברכה והצלחה בהמצטרך לו ולב"ב הן בגשמיות והן ברוחניות, וישמש ביתו מקום משם תתפשט אידישע ווארימקייט און חיות בכל הסביבה, שעי"ז יתוסף אור בהשפעת השי"ת בהבית ולדרים בו.
נעם לי להודע מהרה"ח... אשר שואל חוות דעתי אודות סכום שיקציב לצדקה בקשר וביחד עם הוצאות קנין הבית. ומה שנראה לי בזה הוא, שיהי' יותר ממעשר אם מעט ואם הרבה, היינו שביחד עם כל תשלום שיעשה בקנית הבית יתן גם לצדקה יותר ממעשר מהתשלום. וכיון שהרה"ח... מזכיר שאלתו בעניני הצדקה אם שיהי' בענינים מיוחדים. הרי לדעתי מחצית הסכום יחלק בעצמו, ומחצית השני, הנה כיון שבקשת הברכה שלו הנני קורא אותה על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, שבטח יעורר ר"ר למילוי משאלות לבבו לטובה - יחלק שליש להחזקת מוסדות כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר בארצנו הקדושה תבנה ותכונן במהרה בימינו ע"י משיח צדקנו. שליש להחזקת מוסדותינו אשר בצפון אפריקה, ישיבות חדרים ותלמוד תורה על טהרת הקדש הן לנערים והן לנערות בשביל אחינו הספרדים. ושליש להדפסת תורתו ומאמריו של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר.
וזכות הצדקה בכלל וצדקה הקשורה בחינוך תורני החזקת והפצת לימוד תורתנו תמכין דאורייתא, שעל זה נאמר עץ חיים היא למחזיקים בה ותומכי' מאושר - גליקליך, ימשיך ברכות השי"ת והצלחתו בעניניו בטוב הנראה והנגלה.

I was pleased to receive the news through Haraha"ch vavac"h iy"a nu"n who is involved with tzt"z Moreinu HaRav... that in these days you are making advance payments towards acquiring a home. May it be the will of Hashem that you move into your new residence at an auspicious and successful time, and that this brings about a change in fortune for increased blessing and success in all your needs, both material and spiritual. May your home serve as a place from which Jewish warmth and vitality spreads throughout the surroundings, thereby increasing the light of Hashem's influence in the house and upon its inhabitants.
I was pleased to hear from Haraha"ch... who asks my opinion regarding the amount to allocate for tzedakah in connection with the expenses of acquiring the home. What seems appropriate to me is that it should be more than a tenth—whether a little or a lot—that is, with every payment made towards purchasing the house, also give to tzedakah more than a tenth of that payment.
Since Haraha"ch... mentions his question regarding whether this tzedakah should be given for special causes: In my opinion, half of the sum he should distribute himself; as for the other half—since I am reading his request for blessing at the holy resting place of my revered father-in-law, certainly he will arouse mercy for fulfillment of his heart's desires for good—he should divide it as follows: one third for supporting my revered father-in-law's institutions in our Holy Land (may it be rebuilt and established speedily in our days through Moshiach Tzidkeinu); one third for supporting our institutions in North Africa—yeshivos, cheders, and Talmud Torahs on pure holiness both for boys and girls among our Sephardic brethren; and one third for printing my revered father-in-law's Torah teachings and discourses.
The merit of tzedakah in general—and especially tzedakah connected with Torah education, supporting and spreading Torah study (about which it is said: "It is a tree of life to those who grasp it, and its supporters are fortunate")—will surely draw down Hashem's blessings and success in your affairs in revealed good.

Summary
When buying a home, dedicate slightly more than ten percent of each payment to tzedakah. Divide your giving between personal distribution and support for Torah institutions locally and abroad. This practice brings increased blessing and success both materially and spiritually.
