בטח קבל מכתבי מכבר, ובעתו קבלתי מכתבו מכ"ו כסלו עם המוסגר בו, ולפלא שמזכיר שבשבוע הבע"ל יעתיק לדירה החדשה, ולע"ע אין כל ידיעה עד"ז. ותקותי שעכ"פ לעת קבלת מכתבי זה נסתדרו הענינים. ואכפול ברכותי שיהי' משנה מקום משנה מזל לטובה ולברכה. ושההעתקה תהי' מעילא לעילא בעלי' בגשמיות ובעלי' ברוחניות.
ומ"ש בענין חנוך הבית הנה אף שבספרי נגלה יש מקום עיון בזה, ועיין באחרונים שו"ע או"ח סי' תקס"ח. יעויין שם מג"א סק"ה וביד אפרים. ולהעיר ג"כ משו"ת חת"ס יו"ד סקל"ח ותורת השלמים סי"ט. הנה כיון שהוא מנהג ישראל, ועוד ועיקר אשר במאמר דא"ח מרבנו הזקן מבאר "הטעם שעושים משתה ושמחה בחנוכת הבית" (נמצא עתה בדפוס. והוא מביכל כת"י הר"פ משקלאוו) הרי יש לעשות כנ"ל. וכשיתועדו בהתועדות חסידותית ובהשמיע ד"ת דא"ח, הרי תהי' תועלת הן בגשמיות והן ברוחניות.
ובטח יודע ממנהגנו לקבוע המזוזות תיכף בהכנסו לבית, ומובן שבלי ברכה, אלא שבמלאת שלשים יום נוטלים מזוזה אחת לבודקה, והרי מותר להחליפה ביפה יותר ממנה, ובמילא קובעים החדשה בברכה, ומכוונים להוציא גם אלו שעל כל שאר הדלתות. והשי"ת יצליחם לבשר טוב בכל הנ"ל. והזן ומפרנס לכל ימציא גם הנצרך להוצאות הבית החדש...
מש"כ ע"ד נסיעה עתה... תמה אני על יחסו לענין קנין הבית, שרוצה בדוקא שתהי' מלאכתו נעשית ע"י אחרים! והרי הבעה"ב נצטוו על עזוב תעזוב עמו, וכפס"ד תורתנו. - ולדעתי, עליו להיות על אתר (מובן, שנסיעה על ימים אחדים אינה בכלל זה) עד שיגמר כל הענין בשטומו"צ.

Surely you have already received my previous letter, and in due time I received your letter from the 26th of Kislev with its enclosure. It is surprising that you mention that next week, G‑d willing, you will move into the new residence, yet until now I have had no information about this. I hope that at least by the time you receive this letter everything has been arranged. I repeat my blessings that 'a change of place brings a change of fortune' for good and for blessing. May the move be from strength to strength—an elevation both materially and spiritually.
Regarding what you wrote about the housewarming (chanukas habayis): Although in revealed Torah sources there is room for discussion on this matter—see later authorities on Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim section 768; see there Magen Avraham subsection 5 and Yad Ephraim. Also note Responsa Chatam Sofer Yoreh Deah section 138 and Toras HaShleimim section 19—since it is a Jewish custom, and especially as explained in a maamar of Chassidus from our master the Alter Rebbe (now printed; it was originally from the manuscript of Reb Pinchas of Shklov), explaining why we make a meal and rejoice at a housewarming—it should be done as above. When people gather for a chassidic farbrengen and words of Chassidus are shared, there will be benefit both materially and spiritually.
You surely know our custom to affix the mezuzahs immediately upon entering the house—and obviously without a blessing. However, when thirty days have passed, one removes one mezuzah to check it (it is permitted to replace it with an even more beautiful one), and then affixes the new one with a blessing, intending also to include those on all other doors.
May Hashem grant you success to share good news regarding all of the above. May He Who sustains and provides for all also provide what is needed for expenses related to the new home...
Regarding what you wrote about traveling now... I am surprised at your attitude toward acquiring the house—that you specifically want others to handle everything! But the homeowner is commanded 'you shall surely help him' (azov ta'azov imo), as ruled in our Torah. In my opinion, he should be present on site (of course, traveling for just a few days does not fall under this) until everything is completed properly.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that upon moving into a new home one should immediately affix all mezuzahs without reciting a blessing; after thirty days one can check and replace one mezuzah with a blessing that covers them all. He encourages celebrating with chassidic teachings and personal involvement in acquiring one's home.
