Bar and bas mitzvah – How to celebrate

בר מצוה ובת מצוה – אופן החגיגה

Celebrate meaningfully rather than lavishly, in your own community so friends can take part, without unnecessary expense or travel (IK 3337, 9782). Always include words of Torah, and ideally of Chassidus, before a group (IK 2811, 7271, 8708). Mark it with Torah study, prayer, tzedakah and acts of kindness (IK 3980, 8764, 10379). Don't print the invitation in the Ashuris script of a Sefer Torah, with tagin; alter the lettering as far as possible (IK 4044). A group bar mitzvah celebration at a school is an occasion to bless each boy to rise from level to level (IK 8715).
