נעם לי לקבל מכתבך על דבר הסדרים ביום הבר-מצוה שלך, וכמובן לכל לראש אמירת דברי תורה, מאמר חסידות, ונתינה לצדקה.
וכיון שההמשך יהי' ביום שבת-קדש פ' יתרו הבע"ל, אשר נקודתה היא מתן תורתנו, תורת חיים, וההמשך לאחר זה בהתחלת פ' ואלה המשפטים.
וידועים דברי רבנו הזקן בעל התניא (פוסק בנסתר דתורה) והשלחן ערוך (פוסק בנגלה דתורה) אשר על בני ישראל ללמוד מפרשת השבוע הוראות בעניני השבוע,
יהי רצון אשר תמיד יהי' לנגד עיניך אחד מעקרי הלימודים מפרשיות האמורות, והוא:
כי לי בני ישראל עבדים - אומר הקב"ה - ולא עבדים לעבדים. שלכן אסור לאיש הישראלי לומר אהבתי את כו', אשר נרמזו בזה כל עניני עולם הזה, שלא להיות מאלו אשר מפני תאוותם לעניני העולם נעשים עבדים ומשועבדים להיצר ועניניו,
אלא לזכור תמיד - אנכי ה' אלקיך אשר הוצאתיך מארץ מצרים מבית עבדים.
להיות בן חורין אמתי, וכהוראת חכמינו ז"ל אין לך בן חורין אלא מי שעוסק בתלמוד תורה, שהלימוד מביא לידי מעשה - קיום המצוות.
וזכות הצדקה תעמוד לך בכל האמור ביתר שאת וביתר עוז ובאופן דמעלין בקדש.
בברכה אשר הוריך שיחיו ירוו ממך רוב נחת אמתי נחת יהודי חסידותי, ולבשורות טובות בכל האמור.

I was pleased to receive your letter regarding the arrangements for your Bar Mitzvah day. As is customary, first and foremost are the recitation of words of Torah, a maamar of Chassidus, and giving to charity.
Since the continuation will be on Shabbos Kodesh Parshas Yisro, G‑d willing—the central point of which is the giving of our Torah, a Torah of life—and then continuing with the beginning of Parshas Ve'eleh HaMishpatim.
It is well known what our Rebbe the Alter Rebbe (the halachic authority in the hidden dimension of Torah) and the Shulchan Aruch (the halachic authority in the revealed dimension) teach: that Jews should learn from the weekly parsha lessons relevant to their week. May it be G‑d's will that you always keep before your eyes one of the main teachings from these parshiyos: 'Ki Li Bnei Yisrael Avadim' (For to Me the children of Israel are servants)—says Hakadosh Baruch Hu—and not servants to servants. Therefore it is forbidden for a Jew to say 'I love my...' etc., which alludes to all matters of this world—not to be among those who because of their desires for worldly matters become slaves and subjugated to their evil inclination and its matters. Rather, always remember—'Anochi Hashem Elokecha Asher Hotzeiticha Me'eretz Mitzrayim MiBeis Avadim' (I am Hashem your G‑d who took you out from Egypt from the house of slavery). To be a truly free person; as our Sages teach: 'There is no free person except one who occupies himself with Torah study,' for learning leads to action—the fulfillment of mitzvos.
And may the merit of charity stand by you in all these matters with increased strength and vigor and in an ever-ascending manner in holiness.
With blessings that your parents should derive much true nachas—Jewish Chassidic nachas—from you, and with good tidings in all these matters.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that true freedom comes through Torah study and mitzvah observance. On a Bar Mitzvah, one should focus on learning Torah, Chassidus, giving charity, and internalizing lessons from the weekly parsha—living as a servant only to Hashem.
