The Rebbe's letters on relations with the Reform and Conservative movements and on interfaith events. These letters express the Rebbe's own position on questions that are debated; they are presented here as his guidance.
Movements, not people. An ideology that denies the Divine origin or the binding nature of the Torah, including Reform, is not a legitimate form of Judaism (IK 5657). The Rebbe urged clarity so as not to lend legitimacy to non-Orthodox movements (IK 4458), while the work of bringing every Jew closer to Torah continues.
Joint bodies. Torah-observant Jews should not join rabbinic or religious organizations together with Reform or Conservative representatives, since membership implies recognition (IK 4162, 4306, 4310, 9069). Partnership with rabbis who reject core Torah principles or publicly violate halachah undermines Torah authority (IK 5793). Communal prestige must never come at the expense of Torah principles (IK 8819).
Events and synagogues. Don't take part in events that legitimize movements opposed to Torah, such as a Conservative rabbi's installation (IK 4931). Don't attend or pray in non-Orthodox synagogues (IK 9396), and involvement with Reform institutions contradicts core Torah principles (IK 8607). Upholding a proper mechitzah is essential (IK 8875).
Interfaith events. Commitment to Jewish faith requires avoiding participation in interfaith religious events (IK 1415).
