In recent days I received the annual booklet of "Young Israel" with the president's report, which was surely sent at your suggestion. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I also enjoyed seeing in several places the stance of "Young Israel" on religious matters—such as in our Holy Land regarding education in general and the drafting of girls, and in our country regarding the obligation to distinguish from the Conservatives—since blurring these boundaries is even worse than the harm caused by their opposition alone.

Although considering the seriousness of these issues, Young Israel's position should have been stated even more strongly and sharply—especially since now is an opportune time to voice firm words that will be accepted—and since American youth tend to view compromise as mere "bluff," I hope that in practice their stance will not lack the necessary strength and sharpness, and that their actions will be carried out with appropriate vigor.

Allow me to briefly comment—although I reviewed the booklet quickly due to lack of time—that while it is important to acknowledge achievements from last year's work as encouragement to continue, one must also beware that satisfaction does not lead to thinking or saying "I have done enough and am content." Alongside counting accomplishments, one must also address what remains undone and shortcomings (since all human actions lack perfection).

I see clearly from what is written—and even more so between the lines—that you play a significant role in maintaining an appropriate approach, in the spirit of Torah and tradition, toward several important issues. I was pleased to see in several places in the report that even Young Israel's leadership recognizes this—not only are they not 'frightened' by it but on the contrary...
