Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from Hod Sheb'Netzach: At an auspicious time you will be mentioned at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzukal-leha nbg"m zya"a, according to the content of your letter. May it be G‑d's will that you receive good news in all those matters about which you write.
Regarding your not mentioning your wife's health... I hope this is a sign that her condition is improving.
Regarding what you wrote about the position in Eretz HaKodesh (may it be rebuilt and established), the reasons are commendable—to bring people closer to Chassidus, etc., etc. Surely for someone like yourself there is no need to elaborate—that in every aspect this situation is entirely different in Eretz HaKodesh than here. Here people are already accustomed that accepting a position at a certain institution does not mean giving approval to all aspects of that institution; whereas in Eretz HaKodesh—besides the issue of partisanship—apparently the opposite of brotherly love that existed at the time of the destruction (and was its cause nearly 1,900 years ago) still persists. Therefore every matter is liable to be exaggerated and blown out of proportion.
Furthermore—and this is also essential—as I have answered similar questions to several others: When one does not move to a new country and there is a need for improvement in conduct, then when one argues or demands regarding conduct etc., the responses (more or less justified) are that "the leaven in the dough holds things back," etc., and it seems like a mountain, besides the fact that "the land of other nations is impure and you are few among them," etc. But when one moves willingly—especially to the palace of the King of kings, Hakadosh Baruch Hu—there all these justifications will not be accepted intellectually nor have any basis. For there, the first question is: Who asked this of you—to come without proper preparation specifically to a land where "the eyes of Hashem are upon it from the beginning of the year until year's end," which cannot tolerate matters contrary to His wisdom and will?
There is much more to elaborate on all this, but my strong hope is that you yourself can expand on these points further.
Regarding your writing that you are busy with "Orthodox politics," and therefore in other areas things do not seem clear and people do not appreciate enough the great possibilities for action for Hashem and His Torah—in general I do not accept emphasizing "Orthodox politics," since those who use this term mean maintaining and instilling Torah observance even into daily life. Each one of us must strive as much as possible until he identifies with and internalizes these ideals so they become his entire worldview.
This is indeed the point of faith in unity—the foundational point of Jewish faith: "In all your ways know Him," so that even in eating and drinking etc., one remains strongly connected without distraction, as explained elsewhere (see Tanya ch. 3).
Accordingly it is understood that this is not a deficiency or hindrance to seeing matters in other areas; on the contrary—it provides an illuminating lens to see things as they truly are: as they appear before their true Creator—not through eyes biased by various interests or ulterior motives. However, we have yet to merit identifying fully with this worldview called "Orthodox politics." In Tanya's language—one remains at an incomplete level. Of course I do not mean at a low level below an incomplete tzaddik; rather he is incomplete only regarding this matter but complete otherwise.
But despite being incomplete or imperfect, it remains clear that there are differences between work outside Israel and in Eretz HaKodesh as described above—and even more so with greater decisiveness.
Additionally—it is surprising that apparently you do not see that most Jews by number and by community are specifically outside Israel; furthermore here one's work does not encounter obstacles or confusion as there—where everything is bound by iron chains of organizations and various parties.
You surely also estimate that there is no comparison between how one is received when coming as a guest—especially from America—and how one would be regarded if taking a position at an institution there: he would become "a servant to servants," as understood.
Regarding what you wrote at the end of your letter—the question isn't entirely clear. If you mean concerning the Conservative movement: after introducing that Jews who were misled or erred into participating deserve great compassion—even those leading them due to livelihood reasons (though they know their responsibility and its consequences)—but regarding the movement itself and its institutions—their status has been clearly ruled upon in Mishnah, Gemara, up through Rambam Hilchot Teshuvah ch. 3 halachah 8; it cannot be compared at all with working at Hillel institutions whose official policy does not aim to deny Torah from Heaven.
May it be G‑d's will—as we stand on Erev Lag BaOmer whose theme is connecting and revealing Chassidus within revealed Torah—as explained in Chassidus about Rashbi's innovation—that this should affect every individual within all Israel: so that one's inner soul (connected with inner Torah), which remained faithful even during sin—even for those farthest away—should act openly as explained at Tanya end ch. 19: repelling evil so it cannot touch even one's garments (thought-speech-action), etc.; though human nature favors novelty—may he act accordingly per our Sages' ruling: whatever comes more simply is better—that means open observance of Torah and mitzvos; so one's garments (thought-speech-action) show this openly until he becomes a living example naturally without deliberation—for someone whose Judaism (Orthodox politics) is his craft; nothing stands before willpower.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that accepting positions in Eretz Yisrael requires special consideration due to its unique spiritual environment. True unity comes from internalizing Torah values deeply into daily life. Open communication with spiritual mentors helps overcome doubts or hesitations.
