במענה למכ' מיום... רבו מלספור מרז"ל וגם פס"ד למעשה שיסודם זה ששקדו חכ' על תקנת בנות ישראל בעניני נישואין ואישות, ובפרט - בתיקון עגונות. ואם בכ"ז ישנו מצב שאין התורה מתרת העגונה - פשוט שזהו גם נגד שכל הבריא להכניס רעפארם כפה"נ לאדם פלוני. וממנ"פ האדם המשנה פס"ד התורה ז. א. שלדעתו האדם למע' ממנה - וא"כ מה לו בכלל לתורה כזו שתצווהו מה לעשות. ואם יודע האמת שתורה מן השמים - איך זה שכל מוגבל של בנ"א - בא לשנות פס"ד של הבורא הבלתי מוגבל ושאינו בערכו כו' ולומר שדין זה ישר בעיניו ודין זה לא כו'. ומסוג זה הם גם ההצעות שנשללו בהחלט ע"י גדולי הדורות שלפנינו וכן אלו שאגוה"ר דכאן המונה מאות רבנים שעסקו בתורה רוב שנותיהם ובהתמדה וכו' ואסרום.

In response to your letter from the day of... Our Sages have spoken extensively, and there is also a practical halachic ruling whose foundation is that the Sages diligently enacted measures for the benefit of Jewish women in matters of marriage and personal status, especially in resolving agunah situations.
Nevertheless, if there is a case where the Torah does not permit releasing an agunah, it is clear that it is also against sound reason to introduce a reform, G‑d forbid, for a particular individual. Either way, if someone changes a Torah ruling because he thinks he is above it—then why should he follow such a Torah at all? And if he knows the truth, that the Torah is from Heaven—how can any limited human intellect attempt to change the ruling of the unlimited Creator, Who is beyond all comparison, and say that this law seems right to him while another does not?
Such suggestions were absolutely rejected by the great leaders of previous generations, as well as by those here who have gathered hundreds of rabbis who have studied Torah most of their lives with diligence and have forbidden these reforms.
I hope that from time to time you increase your involvement in Torah and mitzvos as commanded—to ascend in holiness—and nothing stands in the way of willpower. Summary
The Rebbe teaches that halachic rulings regarding agunos are absolute and not subject to reform or personal reasoning. True adherence to Torah means accepting its Divine authority even when difficult; steadfastness in mitzvah observance brings blessing.
