Kavod Haraha"g Haraha"ch vavac"h iy"a chon askan nimratz rav pe'alim etc. Mohar"a n"y Abramson
Shalom u'Vrachah!
We were very pleased to hear from you and about your great involvement in all matters of my father-in-law the Rebbe shlita, especially regarding the Center for Educational Affairs, which is one of the main projects of my father-in-law the Rebbe ad sheyichyeh.
I wish to thank you for your important participation in the foundational work for establishing a branch of our office in London during the visit of our esteemed friend vavac"h iy"a Mr. Nisan Mindel, as reported to us by our friend Haran"m. He told us that you were one of the pillars supporting this project.
Now we are looking forward to good fruits, and indeed the time has come for the work to be carried out in practice. We have already sent a considerable number of books and pamphlets about Melach (the Center) to various addresses in England.
Since we did not want to burden you with technical work—especially knowing how busy you are—we assigned all typesetting and related tasks to our friend Mr. Avraham Kagan, who volunteered to handle this as much as possible. He even offered one of his rooms as an office for now until things are properly arranged.
However, it was never our intention that this work should be done without compensation; but Mr. Avraham insisted on this point. In any case, we authorized him to hire an assistant to write letters, make book lists, pack bundles, etc., as needed for distributing our printed materials outside London.
If you wish to organize distribution within London through one of your trusted associates—as was your original intention—you will surely do so successfully. If you find it necessary to assign this task to Mr. Avraham Kagan, he will certainly assist as much as possible.
Since "one only urges those who are already diligent," I am sure you will encourage and motivate Mr. Avraham Kagan; together with our friend Haraha"g Haraha"ch etc. Mohar"y Binyaminson they will assist and support you in every way—as well as provide spirit and motivation for the entire project.
The establishment of an office in London is essential. It is worthwhile consulting a lawyer on how to arrange this officially; if that is not yet possible, it should still be organized in some fashion. Because of its importance we have taken responsibility for funding the office; but surely Anash in England will strive to fulfill their commitment to cover office expenses according to their decision at the Anash gathering in Manchester on 26 Tishrei this year.
To conclude with a matter relevant to today: Our Sages said (see Tanya ch. 36) that the days of Mashiach—especially when there will be resurrection—are the ultimate purpose and perfection of creation; that is why the world was created from the outset. This is also evident from Scripture: nature itself deteriorated after Adam's sin due to its curse; so for nature's restoration there must be atonement for Adam's sin.
This is what will happen in Mashiach's days when "the spirit of impurity will be removed from earth." (See also Moreh Nevuchim I:2 and end Hilchos Melachim: "The entire world will only be occupied with knowing G‑d.")
Bringing these days closer and meriting them comes through our current service—to bring Shechinah into this world so that it returns to its state before Adam's sin when Shechinah dwelled below—and even more so in future times. As our Sages said (Bereishis Rabbah 19:7), "the main dwelling place of Shechinah was below; after Adam sinned it departed... but tzaddikim bring it back." This is learned from "Tzaddikim shall inherit land and dwell...," referring primarily to future times.
One change caused by Adam's sin was that originally all trees bore fruit (Bereishis Rabbah ch. 5). So too in future times all barren trees will bear fruit—as explicitly stated by our Sages (Torat Kohanim beginning Bechukosai; see also end of Kesubos).
This concept applies spiritually: "For man is a tree of the field," and our Sages explained that fruits refer—in a Jew—to mitzvos (Sotah 46a). Creation was such that every being fulfills its purpose according to G‑d's command—every tree bears fruit. Only through sin does one become like a tree without fruit both spiritually and physically.
Our present task is thus to bring all creation back toward its original perfection—that everyone around us should produce fruits i.e., mitzvos—and then we will all merit fulfillment of "the tree shall yield its fruit... I will lead you upright," both spiritually and materially.
Summary
The Rebbe highlights both practical organization—establishing communal infrastructure—and spiritual growth: just as every tree should bear fruit, so too every person should fulfill their purpose through mitzvos, bringing about redemption both physically and spiritually.
