במענה על מכתבו מד' פרשת מטות, בו כותב אודות מצב פרנסתו שאינו כדבעי והנה[ו] בעל חוב כו' וכו'.
הנה סיום מכתבו בהעדר השמחה הוא בסתירה להתחלת המכתב שכותב את אשר עבר עליו ובלשונו ע"ד נסים ממש נשאר בין שארית הפליטה ובנה משפחה כו'.
וישא קל וחומר בעצמו, שאם הי' ביכולת השי"ת להצילו מהענינים דשנים שעברו ולהצליחו בבנין בית בישראל על יסודי התורה והמצוה, הרי על אחת כמה וכמה שהזן ומפרנס לכל ימציא לו פרנסתו ופרנסת בני ביתו, ואין הדבר תלוי אלא בבטחון ובמצות הצדקה, שבטחון הגמור שהשי"ת יפרנסו בהמצטרך לו ולב"ב כלפי שמיא מהני, ובפרט בצירוף הצדקה אשר הקב"ה מבקש ובחנוני נא בזאת שיהי' עשר בשביל שתתעשר. והשי"ת יצליח שיבשר טוב בכל הנ"ל.
בטח יודע מתקנת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע השוה לכל נפש, לאמר תהלים בכל יום אחר תפלת שחרית - כפי שנחלק הת[ה]לים לימי החדש - וכן ללמוד בכל יום איזה פסוק חומש עם פירוש רש"י מהסדרה של השבוע.
בברכה לפרנסה בגשמיות ולפרנסה ברוחניות מתוך הרחבת הדעת.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from the fourth day of Parshas Matos, in which you write about your financial situation not being as it should be and that you are in debt, etc., etc.
The end of your letter expresses a lack of joy, which contradicts the beginning of your letter where you describe what you have gone through—in your words: actual miracles; you remained among the surviving remnant and built a family, etc.
You can draw a kal vachomer (a fortiori argument) yourself: if it was within the ability of the Holy One, blessed be He, to save you from the events of previous years and help you succeed in building a Jewish home on the foundations of Torah and mitzvahs, then all the more so will He Who sustains and provides for all supply you with your livelihood and that of your household. The matter depends only on trust and on the mitzvah of tzedakah. Complete trust that Hashem will provide for you and your family with what is needed is effective before Heaven—especially when combined with tzedakah, which Hashem requests: "And test Me now with this," so that "you shall tithe in order that you become wealthy." May Hashem grant success so that you will have good news regarding all the above.
You surely know about the practice instituted by my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe—may his merit protect us—which is accessible to everyone: to recite Tehillim every day after Shacharis as divided according to the days of the month, and also to study each day some verses from Chumash with Rashi's commentary from that week's portion.
With blessings for material livelihood and spiritual livelihood with peace of mind.
Summary
The Rebbe encourages survivors who witnessed miracles to maintain joy and strong trust in Hashem for their needs. Faith combined with tzedakah brings both material and spiritual sustenance.
