Shalom u'Vrachah!

In response to your notice that on the upcoming 7th of Adar II the gathering will take place to launch the annual campaign for the benefit of the yeshiva, I am sending my blessing to all those involved in the yeshiva and its supporters with joy. May they, with expanded awareness, increase their efforts to strengthen and broaden the holy yeshiva so it can continue its influence like an ever-increasing spring in spreading Torah and strengthening Judaism in their community and country.

This annual event has been arranged for a meritorious day—the 7th of Adar, a day that causes things to happen: the birthday of Raaya Meheimna (the faithful shepherd), Moshe Rabbeinu. Every matter and detail is by Divine Providence, and from every event one must learn a lesson in Torah and mitzvos, as is well known from the Baal Shem Tov's saying.

The Gemara states: When Haman’s lot fell in Adar he rejoiced greatly and said: The lot fell for me in the month Moshe died; but he did not know that on the seventh of Adar Moshe died and on the seventh of Adar he was born. At first glance this answer is not understood—for death comes after birth and cancels it out.

The explanation is that Moshe was a shepherd; even before coming into this world he was designated as shepherd and redeemer of Israel—to redeem them from Egypt and bring them to G‑d’s mountain at Chorev to receive the Torah. In every generation and every day when a person sees himself as if he left Egypt and thanks Hashem and blesses 'Giver of the Torah'—in present tense—the life-force and activity of Moshe are present. And what is life? Even Moshe Rabbeinu lives.

Even though this activity changed after Moshe’s passing—now coming through his students and his extension—the day of birth is sufficient to atone for death and any change brought by it. For on his birthday Moshe’s sun began to shine in this world—and even now it shines, though differently.

The holy Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim in Montreal has as its mission to fulfill the verse: 'Remember the Torah of Moshe My servant which I commanded him at Chorev for all Israel—statutes and laws,' raising students who are men of Moshe—temimim who desire complete Torah: both revealed Torah and its inner dimension; who desire chassidic enthusiasm and light. All who work for strengthening, developing, and expanding the yeshiva receive reward similar to their work—reward both in revealed aspects and inner ones; materially and spiritually; enduringly and eternally.
