במענה על מכתבו בו שואל אם יש כבר אתחלתא דגאולה או לא.
ולפלא השאלה בדבר הפשוט ונפסק בהלכה ע"י המורה הגדול הוא הרמב"ם סוף הלכות מלכים מיוסד על כמה כתובים בתורה ובנביאים ורז"ל, שיעמוד מלך מבית דוד הוגה בתורה ועוסק במצות ויכוף כל ישראל לילך בה ולחזק בדקה (והוא דוקא) ויקבץ נדחי ישראל, עיי"ש, ובהלכות תשובה סוף פרק ט', ונמצאים עתה בגלות חשך כפול ומכופל עוד יותר מדורות שלפנינו, כיון שכמה מגדולי ישראל הלכות למנוחות וכו' ולא די בהחשך מצד עצמו, הנה נתקיים גם החזון דשמים חשך לאור ואור לחשך.
ויהי רצון אשר תחת שאלות בענינים האמורים, ינצל את זמנו להתמדה ושקידה לימוד תורתנו הק' בנגלה ובחסידות ויוסיף בהידור בקיום המצות, שכל פעולה כזו מוסיפה אור בעולם ומעט אור דוחה אפילו הרבה חשך ומקרב עי"ז קץ הגלות המר.
בטח יודע משלשת השיעורים דחומש תהלים ותניא בכל יום, ועכ"פ ישמור עליהם מכאן ולהבא.

In response to your letter in which you ask whether the beginning of the Geulah has already arrived or not. It is surprising to ask about something so clear and decided in halachah by the great teacher, the Rambam, at the end of Hilchos Melachim, based on several verses in Torah and Prophets and our Sages: that a king from the house of David will arise who studies Torah and observes mitzvos and compels all Israel to follow it and strengthen its observance (and only then), and gathers in the dispersed of Israel—see there—and also at the end of Hilchos Teshuvah chapter 9. And now we find ourselves in an exile that is darkness doubled and redoubled even more than previous generations, since many great leaders of Israel have passed away, etc., and not only is there darkness itself, but also the vision has been fulfilled that "they make darkness into light and light into darkness."
May it be G‑d's will that instead of questions on these matters, you use your time for diligence and persistence in learning our holy Torah—both Nigleh and Chassidus—and increase your care in fulfilling mitzvos with extra beauty. Every such action adds light to the world, and even a little light dispels much darkness and thereby brings closer the end of this bitter exile.
You surely know about the three daily study portions: Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya; at least from now on you should keep up with them.
