במענה על מכתבו מבדר"ח חשון, נהניתי לקרות בו ע"ד הטבת מצב בריאותו וכיון שכבר נכנס לבית הבראה הרי בטח יתנהג בזה כהוראת רופא מומחה והתורה נתנה רשות לרופא לרפאות, ומ"ש שצר לו על הזמן, הרי לפלא הדבר כי הרי נמצא הוא בין יהודים אשר אין כל ספק אשר בתעמולה המתאימה יתקרבו יותר לתורה ומצותי'.
ואם בשביל טובה אחת ליהודי אחד בגשמיות או ברוחניות כדאית ירידת הנשמה למטה למשך 70 -80 שנה, וכפתגם הבעל שם טוב הידוע, הרי עאכו"כ שבאם ירצה באמת יצליח בתעמולתו בין אלו הנמצאים אתו בבית הבראה שיבריאו ג"כ ברוחניות, וגדול זכות זה להגדיל הסייעתא דשמיא בעבודתו בעצמו, עבודה מלשון עורות עבודים, כמבואר בדא"ח בכמה מקומות.

In response to your letter from around Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan, I was pleased to read about the improvement in your health. Since you have already entered a convalescent home, you will surely follow the instructions of a specialist doctor, for the Torah has given permission to the doctor to heal.
You wrote that you are troubled by the time spent there; this is surprising because you are among Jews, and there is no doubt that with proper effort they can be drawn closer to Torah and its mitzvos. If for the sake of one benefit—physical or spiritual—for a single Jew it is worthwhile for a soul to descend into this world for seventy or eighty years, as is well known from the Baal Shem Tov's saying, how much more so if you truly desire it you will succeed in your efforts among those with you in the convalescent home so that they too recover spiritually. This merit is great and increases Divine assistance in your own service—service as in "worked skins," as explained in Chassidus in several places.
With blessings for success in all the above and for continued good news regarding your improving health.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that every opportunity—even during illness—can be used to inspire others spiritually. Helping even one Jew justifies a soul's descent into this world and brings increased Divine assistance in one's own service.
