...כן כותב אשר כשמדבר אודות שחינוך הבנות יהי' מבוסס ע"פ תורה ולא רק ע"פ מסורת אומרים לו שזהו אסור. והנה מופת חי בחיים בדורות האחרונים אשר דיעה זו מושללת ומופרכת וכל המתבונן רואה ההיזק והחורבן שהביאה התנהגות זו בזמן האחרון בפרט, ואפילו הרוצה לדייק בשו"ע מבלי הבנה כ"א לפירוש המלות בפשטות במלות ובאותיות, הרי ידוע הפס"ד אשר "הנשים חייבות ללמוד הלכות הצריכות להן, לידע אותן כמו דיני נדה וטבילה ומליחה ואיסור יחוד וכיוצא בהם, כל מ"ע שאין הזמן גרמא וכל מצות לא תעשה של תורה ושל ד"ס שהן מוזהרות בהן כו' ובימיהם הי' החכם דורש הלכות המצויות ורגילות וצריכות לכל אדם לידע אותן בלשון שמבינים הנשים כו'" (הלכות ת"ת לרבנו הזקן סוף פרק א' ועיין שם המקורים)...[2]

Now, there is living proof in the life of recent generations that this view is rejected and refuted, and anyone who reflects sees the harm and destruction this conduct has brought, especially of late. And even one who wants to be exact about the Shulchan Aruch without any reasoning, taking only the plain meaning of the words and letters, knows the ruling that "women are obligated to learn the laws they need, to know them, such as the laws of niddah and immersion and salting and the prohibition of yichud and the like, every positive mitzvah not bound by time and every negative mitzvah, of the Torah and of the Sofrim, of which they are warned, etc.; and in their days the sage would expound the common, frequent laws that everyone needs to know in a language the women understand, etc." (Hilchos Talmud Torah of the Alter Rebbe, end of ch. 1, and see the sources there)...
