במענה על מכתבו מכ"ה תשרי, בו מודיע ע"ד יום ההולדת שלו וכן על שמתחזק בלימוד ושואל התאמצות בענין הידוע וכו'.
הרי במכתבו עצמו כותב אחד התיקונים בהודעתו אשר כשהוא נמצא בישיבה מחזיק את עצמו אבל כשבא... וכו' שגם זה הוכחה נוספת על ההכרה שיתאמץ בלימוד ובהנהגה מתאים לסדרי הישיבה, ויפרוש מחברים בלתי רצויים ויתדבק בחברים טובים יראי שמים וחסידים ואשר אז תקוים בו הבטחת רז"ל יגעת ומצאת.
ובקשר עם יום ההולדת שלו הנה יה"ר מהשי"ת שתהי' שנת הצלחה אצלו בהנהגה ביראת שמים אמיתית הן בפנימיות והן בחיצוניות ויוסיף אומץ בתורה ומצות בקביעות בנפש ובקביעות בזמן, ויתבונן בהתחלת קאפיטל טו"ב בתהלים שמתחיל עתה לומר מיום הולדתו, האזינה תפלתי בלא שפתי מרמה (אשר אז) מלפניך (דוקא) משפטי יצא (עיין בד קודש).

In response to your letter from the 25th of Tishrei, in which you inform me about your birthday and also that you are strengthening yourself in study and ask for encouragement regarding the known matter, etc.
In your letter itself you write one of the corrections in your report: that when you are in yeshiva you hold yourself up but when you come... etc. This is also further proof of your awareness that you should exert yourself in study and conduct according to the order of the yeshiva, separate from undesirable friends and attach yourself to good friends who are G‑d-fearing and chassidic. Then the assurance of our Sages will be fulfilled for you: "You have labored and found."
In connection with your birthday: May it be the will of Hashem that this year be a year of success for you in conduct with true fear of Heaven both inwardly and outwardly. May you increase strength in Torah and mitzvos with consistency in soul and time. Reflect on the beginning of chapter seventeen in Tehillim which you now begin to recite from your birthday: "Ha'azina tefilati b'lo siftei mirma (Listen to my prayer without deceit), (then) milfanecha (specifically from before You) mishpati yetze (my judgment will come out)" (see Bed Kodesh).
