מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מיום ו' ניסן והקודמו.
ולקראת חג המצות, זמן חירותנו, הבא עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה, הנני בזה להביע ברכתי לחג כשר ושמח ולחירות אמתית, חירות מדאגות בגשם ומדאגות ברוח - מכל דבר המעכב עבודת ה' בשמחה ובטוב לבב.
ולהמשיך מחירות ושמחה זו בימי כל השנה כולה.
ובפרט שעבודת השם, כמצווה עלינו בתורתנו תורת חיים, הרי היא בכל עניני האדם ובמשך כל היום וכל הלילה, וכמו שנאמר בכל דרכיך דעהו.

לכתבו ע"ד השו"ב.. - גם מלכתחילה לא חוו"ד בגוף הטענות ומי הצודק וכו' - כ"א רק שישנן טענות מבהילות ובמילא מוכרח בירור. ותל"מ.
בהתקבל הידיעה ע"ד הבחרו למוהר"ר - מובן שנהנתי מזה שהבוחרים הכירו בכת"ר וכו' וכו'; מאידך גיסא נבוך הייתי בנוגע "להנבחר" האם זהו ענין לכתיבת מז"ט כו', או כו' - כיון שזוהי כניסה לתפקיד מלא נסיונות, ומסובכים דוקא. ויה"ר שיצא מכל הנסיונות בשלום ובשלימות ועוד יותר - וזה יוכיח על תחילתו שהי' זה ענין של ברכת מז"ט והצלחה.

I hereby acknowledge receipt of your letter from Friday, 6 Nissan, as well as your previous correspondence. As we approach the Festival of Matzos, the season of our freedom, which is coming upon us and all Israel for good, I take this opportunity to express my blessing for a kosher and joyous holiday and for true freedom—freedom from material worries and spiritual concerns—from anything that hinders serving Hashem with joy and gladness of heart. May this freedom and joy continue throughout the entire year.
Especially since serving Hashem, as we are commanded in our Torah of life, applies to all aspects of a person's life and throughout every day and night, as it is said: 'B'chol derachecha da'eihu' (In all your ways know Him).

Regarding your letter about the shochet u'bodek: From the outset I did not express an opinion on the substance of the arguments or who is right etc.—only that there are alarming claims which therefore require clarification. And that's all.
Upon receiving word about your election to the rabbinical council—it is understandable that I was pleased that those electing recognized your stature etc.; on the other hand I was perplexed regarding "the one elected": whether this is an occasion to write congratulations etc., or otherwise—since this is an entry into a position full of challenges and complexities specifically. May it be G‑d's will that you emerge from all these tests in peace and completeness—and even more so—and this will prove that from its beginning it was indeed a matter worthy of congratulations and success.
