Shalom u'Vrachah!
With great astonishment I read your letter from Tuesday, in which you feel that (consciously or unconsciously) you were not given the correct information. In any case, the content of your letter has been conveyed to the administration of the yeshivah to whom this entire matter belongs.
I must express my great astonishment regarding a Jew who has seen the kindnesses of Hashem Yisbarach and miracles—who was saved from non-Jewish hands and was blessed with a good son endowed with talent. Yet it seems that the only thing troubling them is how to arrange things so that their son will take away part of his youthful years from studying our holy Torah, Toras Chaim, and devote them only to etc. All these 'calculations' used to justify such an attitude are not fitting for those who have seen and lived through those times—not just as a memory—and they should not allow themselves to be deceived by the yetzer hara.
I do not wish to elaborate on this whole matter, which as mentioned belongs to the administration of the yeshivah and the parents. However, since you raised the question and want to connect it with the Aseres HaDibros commandment of 'Kibbud Es Avicha Ve'es Imecha' (Honor your father and your mother), I cannot allow myself to pass over this in silence without expressing my aforementioned astonishment.
And may Hashem Yisbarach help that in the end every Jew—man and woman—will see the true truth: that is, our holy Torah is Toras Emes (Torah of Truth), and will fulfill its mitzvos about which it is written 'V'Chai Bahem' (and you shall live by them), striving to spread them as much as possible in time and throughout their entire environment—and first and foremost regarding children for whom one bears a deep soulful responsibility and accountability. And that's sufficient.
With blessings for good news in all of the above.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that parents should prioritize their children's Torah study above all else, recognizing their spiritual responsibility. He emphasizes that true honor for parents aligns with fostering Torah learning and fulfilling mitzvos wholeheartedly.
