במענה למכתבו מר"ח אלול, בו כותב סברות שונות בנוגע להמשך לימודו בעת הקרובה ושואל דעתי בזה.
לפי הנראה לי - מהנכון אשר ילמוד באחת הישיבות אשר באה"ק ת"ו ב"ב ע"י משיח צדקנו, ובאיזו ישיבה - יקבע לאחרי שיהי' שם ויבקר בהישיבות ויתייעץ עם ידידיו אשר במקום שם, ותשועה ברוב יועץ.
ואם בכלל ימים אלו ימי הכנה הם לשנה הבע"ל, עאכו"כ כאשר בתכנית השנה הוא גם עלי' לארץ הקדושה, פלטרין של ממה"מ הקב"ה, אלא שבודאי - עם ההוספה בהדרישה מהאדם, ניתנו לו גם כחות נוספים למלאות הדרישה חדשה ועוד ביתר שאת ויתר עז.
ואופן ההכנה הרי מבואר הוא בכ"מ, ובכ"א צ"ל מתוך בטחון חזק בהשי"ת המשגיח על כאו"א בהשגחה פרטית [וכמבואר בארוכה בתורת הבעש"ט ענין השגחה פרטית זו], ומתוך שמחה (של מצוה, עיין רמב"ם סוף הלכות לולב) וטוב לבב.
ובפרט אשר רואים במוחש, שעי"ז מתוסף בהצלחת ההכנה, וק"ל.
בטח שומר על שלשת השיעורים דחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים, נוסף על לימודו בהתמדה ושקידה נגלה וחסידות.
ויהי רצון שיבשר טוב בכל האמור, ובפרט שנכנסנו בחדש אלול שע"פ דברי רבנו הזקן - אשר השנה שנת המאה וחמשים להסתלקות הילולא שלו - הוא ע"פ משל למלך בשדה, שמקבל את כ"א בספ"י ומראה פנים שוחקות לכולם וכו' (לקוטי תורה, דברים ל"ב ב').

Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from Rosh Chodesh Elul, in which you write various thoughts regarding the continuation of your studies in the near future and ask my opinion on this matter.
As it appears to me—it is proper that you should study in one of the yeshivas in Eretz HaKodesh (may it be rebuilt and established by our righteous Moshiach), and as for which yeshiva—you should decide after you arrive there, visit the yeshivas, and consult with your friends who are there; "salvation comes with much counsel."
And if these days are generally days of preparation for the coming year, how much more so when your plan for the year includes ascending to the Holy Land—the palace of the King of kings, the Holy One blessed be He. Certainly—with an increase in what is demanded from a person, additional strengths are also given to fulfill this new demand with even greater vigor and strength.
The manner of preparation is explained in many places; but in any case it must be done with strong trust in Hashem Who watches over each individual with individual Divine Providence [as explained at length in the teachings of the Baal Shem Tov about this concept], and with joy (the joy of a mitzvah—see Rambam at the end of Hilchos Lulav) and gladness of heart.
Especially since it is clearly seen that through this approach, success in preparation is increased—and this is easily understood.
Certainly you are maintaining the three well-known daily study portions: Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya—in addition to your diligent study of Nigleh and Chassidus.
May it be G‑d's will that you share good news about all the above—especially as we have entered the month of Elul which, according to our Rebbe the Alter Rebbe—this year being the one hundred fiftieth anniversary since his passing—is likened by parable to a king in the field who receives everyone graciously and shows a smiling face to all (see Likkutei Torah Devarim 32b).
