Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from the eve of Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan in which you write about a suggestion you received from someone to marry, and he is over forty years old. As it appears from your letter, this is too great a difference in years from you. Also, it is necessary to find out what is the reason that this person has not yet made a match until now. Before doing anything in this matter, one must clearly know the reason and also consider the age difference, which has much significance. In the city where this person resides, you surely have friends who will hopefully be able to help you with this.
Regarding your writing about livelihood—that you run a business but are not entirely satisfied with it—in general, in our times it is not advisable to abandon a source of livelihood that is ongoing and already practical and established as long as there is no solid and stable alternative to switch to, which is not easy to find in our times when many conditions change from day to day and week to week.
Also, changing a business is not an advantage for a match; people certainly look into or ask about such matters, and it makes a good impression when a business has been running for several years rather than leaving an old business and taking up something new.
The main thing according to the beginning of your letter: it is extremely important that your daily conduct should be in accordance with the instructions of our Torah of life and keeping its mitzvos, about which it says "veChai Bahem" (and you shall live by them), which is necessary at all times and in every place—especially when one finds oneself in a situation needing special blessing and success from Hashem Yisborach to decide such an extremely important matter as yours now.
It would be proper that every weekday morning you give several coins to tzedakah—of course this should be bli neder (without making a vow).
With blessing for good news in all mentioned above.
Summary
The Rebbe advises careful consideration regarding marriage proposals with large age differences and emphasizes investigating reasons for delayed matches. He also stresses maintaining an existing livelihood unless a stable alternative exists and encourages daily acts of charity for blessing and success.
