Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from the sixth of Tishrei, in which you write about your situation in avodah and the state of your health, that "one nation will strengthen itself over another," and as a result you have come to sadness, etc.
It is clear that thoughts and contemplation that lead to despair, laziness, and weakness in serving Hashem have an impure source; they are among the tricks of the keluginiker who disguises himself in the cloak of fear of Heaven. Therefore, one must fight against all such matters—especially since this has already been addressed at length in Tanya in several chapters, including chapter 27 onward. It is a shame to waste time on such baseless thoughts when it could be used for the three pillars: Torah, avodah (prayer), and mitzvos. May Hashem grant you success to increase diligence and devotion, and to serve Hashem with joy according to the guidance of our holy Nesi'im of blessed memory.
Blessings for success in all the above and for a good final sealing.
In the name of the Rebbe shlita,
Mazkir
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that negative thoughts leading to despair are not from a pure source and must be actively resisted. Instead, channel energy into Torah study, prayer, mitzvos, and joyful service of Hashem.
