Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from the 26th of Adar Rishon, questions: a) Since they were commanded regarding Shemitah etc., how is it that rain falls during Shemitah, etc.? This question is already brought—similarly—and the answer in our Sages of blessed memory, in Bereishis Rabbah section 11:5; Likkutei Torah by the Alter Rebbe on Tazria (21c).
b) Is it possible to prove the unity of the Creator through reason? It is not understood why there is a necessity specifically through reason when all Jews are believers, children of believers (Shabbos 97a). Nevertheless, since you touched on this matter, look into Sefer HaEmunos V'Deios by Rav Saadia Gaon in Shaar HaYichud, Sefer Chovos HaLevavos and elsewhere.
c) How is it possible to reconcile Divine foreknowledge and human free choice? Answer: This is not a question at all*, for knowledge does not contradict choice; rather it is recognition. The example: A person who knows the future—this does not affect at all the free choice of the person who must act; and the one who knows the future knows how he will act.
And all this manner of searching for questions etc.—when one could use his time with diligence and perseverance in Torah study with awe of Heaven and set times for learning Chassidus—which if at all times and places was necessary, how much more so in our era and especially in Eretz HaKodesh.
With blessing for good news,
In the name of the Rebbe shlita,
Secretary
It is well known that much has been written about this elsewhere. Among them: Zohar Chadash Tikunim at its end (121b), Hilchos Teshuvah by Rambam chapter 5 and its commentaries (and what is written in Ohr Sameach there—there is much to note), Pardes Shaar Dalet chapter 9, Shnei Luchos HaBris in the introduction Beis HaBechirah, Torah Or by the Alter Rebbe (15a). But their question is deep—and not as they wrote. And this is not the place to elaborate.
Divine foreknowledge and human free will: see also above volume 3 Igros letters 339, 442, 818.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that Divine knowledge does not negate human free will; both coexist without contradiction. Instead of dwelling on philosophical dilemmas, one should dedicate time to diligent Torah study and Chassidus for spiritual growth.
