B"H, Eve of Rosh Chodesh Iyar, 5719. Brooklyn.

Shalom u'Vrachah!

I acknowledge receipt of your letter from Monday, along with its enclosure.

Regarding what you wrote about your daughters and the reason they were not present at the Acharon Shel Pesach gathering—that seemingly the reason is very valid, as it is included in the Ten Commandments to honor one's mother—when considering that this concerns the Acharon Shel Pesach gathering, the meal of Mashiach, and a beginning for a healthy and joyful summer, arrangements should have been made so that both the commandment from the Ten Commandments would be fulfilled and they would also be present at the gathering. The way to do this is quite simple: if their mother would also have attended the gathering. Especially since the reason for having the daughters present applies equally—and perhaps even more so—to their mother as well. This is clear.

Even though our Sages say we do not cry over what has already passed, these lines were written because surely a similar question will arise in the future. This too is clear...

With blessings for success and to hear good news in all of the above.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that honoring parents and participating in important communal gatherings can be harmonized by involving all family members together. Past situations should guide future decisions to ensure both mitzvos are fulfilled joyfully.
