במ"ש אודות ביכל מאמרים שרשום עליהם תאריכים מהשנים תקנ"ה וכו', מובן שמעונין אני בידיעת תאריכים אלו, וגם בהנוגע לתו"א ולקו"ת שכותב כי רק מעטים ביותר שידועים לי עתה התאריכים דהנ"ל [אף שעדיין צריך חיפוש בכמה ביכלעך ישנים שלפעמים נשמר שם גם התאריך, אף שכנראה חסידים הראשונים לא דייקו כלל בהנ"ל ולא עוד אלא שגם לא התבוננו של מי הוא המאמר ובטענתם למאי נפק"מ, שהרי אין בזה ענין של פלוגתא והלכה כפ']. ומאז התחלתי לאסוף ידיעות בהאמור [שמזה בא בפועל לע"ע מפתח מאמרי אדמו"ר מוהר"ש ומפתח מאמרי אדמו"ר

We acknowledge receipt of your letter from the 11th of Nissan, and surely in the meantime you have also received my letter from that same date...
Regarding what you wrote about booklets of discourses on which are written dates from the years 5555 (1795) and so on, it is understood that I am interested in knowing these dates, and also regarding Torah Or and Likkutei Torah, where you write that only very few dates are known to me at present [even though further searching is needed in some old booklets where sometimes the date was preserved; although it seems that the earlier chassidim did not pay attention to this at all, nor did they even consider whose discourse it was, claiming "what difference does it make," since there is no issue of dispute here and the halachah follows everyone].
Since then I have begun to gather information on this matter [which has so far resulted in an index of discourses by Admor Maharash and an index of discourses by Admor Maharashab—may their merit protect us].
