Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter in which you request an explanation about the importance of saying Tanya every day, even though you understand the importance of the daily study of Chumash and Tehillim: The answer to this, as much as can be conveyed in writing, is as follows: Surely you know that there exists Nigleh d'Torah (the revealed part of Torah) and Nistar d'Torah (the hidden part of Torah), which is also called Pnimiyus HaTorah (the inner dimension of Torah). In the language of the holy Zohar, these are called Gufa d'Oraita (the body of Torah) and Nishmasa d'Oraita (the soul of Torah). Similarly, in every person—especially in a Jew—even within his own soul there is a revealed part and a hidden part, which are called the body of the soul and the soul of the soul.
This becomes clearer from observing that matters which touch a person deeply—deeper still—he speaks about with a special fiery enthusiasm, unlike when he speaks about something he does only out of obligation. Even if he speaks about that too with vitality, it is no more than fulfilling an obligation.
And since we desire blessings from Hashem in our daily affairs, and in order to receive His blessings, our holy Torah has said: "Im Bechukosai Teileichu" (If you walk in My statutes), and Rashi explains this means Torah study. And we want these blessings to be full and complete through and through; therefore one must at least learn a minimum from both Nigleh d'Torah and Nistar d'Torah—Pnimiyus HaTorah.
And since we are speaking about a minimum, this was established in such a way that even a beginner can learn it: In Nigleh d'Torah this is Chumash; in Pnimiyus HaTorah this is Tanya. It goes without saying that just as with Chumash—it is not the same whether it is learned by a child or by a great scholar; Chumash can be learned on many levels—so too with learning Tanya.
I hope you will show my letter to your mashpia in Chassidus, who will be able to elaborate on this explanation further than would be possible in a letter.
The main thing is that a bochur learning in yeshivah must know he should learn diligently and fulfill mitzvos with hiddur (beauty), not seeking difficulties. Even if something is not yet so clear to him, he should still do it; with time—as he learns properly—even what was unclear will become understood to him. May Hashem grant him success.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that daily study must include both revealed and inner dimensions of Torah. Tanya serves as an accessible entry point for everyone into Pnimiyus HaTorah. Even when understanding is lacking at first, diligent study brings clarity over time.
