Blessings and peace!
With this I send my greetings and blessings to all participants and members of the Nshei U'Bnos Chabad Association on the occasion of their annual gathering.
May Hashem help to realize all the vital plans of the convention in ever-increasing accomplishments and broader activities. For the purpose of thought and speech is indeed action in practice.
In line with the well-known saying of the Alter Rebbe, founder of Chabad—whose name you also bear—that "one must live with the times," meaning with the content of the weekly Torah portion, may your gathering bring life and vitality from the source of life, our Torah of life, as illuminated by Chassidus—the words of the living G‑d—into your work in general and especially into your work according to the instructions and hints from the weekly Torah portions.
One of the themes of Bamidbar and Naso—the portions between which this convention takes place—is their shared topic: about the Mishkan in the desert and about the duties assigned regarding moving it from place to place. This emphasizes that even when Jews find themselves in a desert, they have the power to establish a holy place—a Mishkan—for the Divine Presence to dwell among Jews as a whole or within each individual Jew.
Just as there is a physical desert—a wilderness where extreme climates and all sorts of dangers prevail—so too there is a spiritual desert where harmful spiritual ideas dominate; this can even be in a country that is materially a flourishing garden. The holy Torah teaches us that even when found in a spiritual desert, one can, should, and must establish a sanctuary, carry it forward, and advance in step with the Divine Presence until reaching G‑d's blessed Holy Land—the true and complete redemption through Moshiach Tzidkeinu.
This is an instruction for all Jews but especially for Jewish women. It is well known that when building the Mishkan, it was women who responded first—even before the men. In this spiritual desert found among certain circles where there is desolation and emptiness in Judaism generally—and even more so regarding chassidic life—you have the great and eternal merit to be among those who are first to establish here in general, and also among them specifically, a Mishkan for Him may He be blessed. I hope you will fulfill your life's mission with devotion and vitality.
I especially wish to draw attention to the necessity not only to devote yourselves to adults but also to very young children. As is clearly seen: when one begins educating a child early on in a certain direction, much greater success follows—with better and more abundant fruits.
With blessings for success in your work—which will also add to Hashem's blessings in personal matters—and with the blessing formula from my revered father-in-law, may each one of us among all Israel receive the Torah with joy and inwardness.
Summary
The Rebbe encourages building holiness even amid spiritual challenges by drawing inspiration from Torah portions about constructing a Mishkan. He emphasizes women's unique role and stresses early education for children as key to enduring Jewish vitality.
