נעם לי לקבל מכתבו מודיע מהטבת הבריאות, ויה"ר[3] שילך מטוב ליותר טוב.
לפלא שאינו כותב בפרטיות אם פעלו באיזה כיוון שהוא, הפ"ש[4] והדבורים שבטח מסרו האורחים דאה"ק ת"ו[5] בחזירתם. וכמדובר בהתועדות כ"פ[6] וגם בש"ק[7] מברכין זה העבר, אשר דברים בטלים אין פירושם דוקא כשמדברים ע"ד ענינים בטלים, אלא גם כפשוטו שאם מדברים לאיזה כוונה ותכלית, ואין הכוונה והתכלית באים לפועל, במילא נעשים הדברים דברים בטלים, והרי הכוונה והתכלית בהתועדות ודברי התעוררות שהם יביאו לאיזה בכן ובמעשה בפועל ולא רק לנחת רוח בעת שמיעת הדברים, אז עם געפעלט דער ווארט. ויה"ר שאזכה ואצליח לקבל בשו"ט[8] בזה.
ומסיימים בטוב בבשורתו הטובה אשר עש"ק[9] בראשית הכניסו את נכדו אהרן מנחם שליט"א לחדר, ויה"ר שמבן חמש למקרא יגדל לבן עשר למשנה, ולבן י"ג למצות וכו' וכפסק המשנה[10].
ולבשורתו הטובה אשר ביום ב' מ"ח הכניסו את נכדו יוסף שמחה שליט"א לחדר, הנה יה"ר שיגדל להיות חסיד ירא שמים ולמדן.
והוא וזוגתו שיחיו ירוו מבניהם וחתניהם ומכל יו"ח[11] שיחיו רוב נחת חסידותי.

Greetings and blessing!
I was pleased to receive your letter reporting the improvement in your health, and may it be G‑d's will that it go from good to better.
It is surprising that you do not write in detail whether the regards and the words that the guests from the Holy Land, may it be rebuilt and established, surely conveyed on their return have had an effect in any direction whatever. And as was spoken at the farbrengen several times, and also on the Shabbos Mevarchim just past: "idle words" (דברים בטלים) does not necessarily mean speaking about idle matters, but also in its plain sense — if one speaks for some intent and purpose, and the intent and purpose are not realized, then the words become idle words. And the intent and purpose of a farbrengen and of words of arousal is that they should lead to some "therefore" and to actual deed, and not merely to a pleasant feeling while hearing them, that "he likes what was said" (az em gefelt der vort). May it be G‑d's will that I merit and succeed to receive good news about this.
And one concludes with good: with your good news that on Erev Shabbos Bereishis they brought your grandson Aharon Menachem [Segal] shlita into cheder. May it be G‑d's will that from "five years old for Scripture" he grow to "ten for Mishnah" and to "thirteen for mitzvos," etc., as the Mishnah rules ("בן חמש שנים למקרא, בן עשר למשנה, בן שלש עשרה למצות" — "At five years old, Scripture; at ten, Mishnah; at thirteen, the mitzvos" (Avos 5:21)).
And as for your good news that on 2 MarCheshvan they brought your grandson Yosef Simcha [Ginsburg] shlita into cheder: may it be G‑d's will that he grow up to be a Chassid, G‑d-fearing, and a scholar.
And may he and his wife, may they live, derive much Chassidic nachas from their sons and sons-in-law and from all their descendants, may they live.
