לפלא שמאז מכ' מי"ט אלול, אין ממנו ידיעות, והרי החדש דאזלינן מני' (וכידוע הפירוש בדא"ח - שנעשים לבחי' מהלך) הוא חדש הכללי דכל השנה, ומושבע בכל טוב וכמפורש במדרש, אלא שעל האדם לקיים מה שנאמר הרחב פיך לעשות כלים רחבים, ומבואר בדא"ח שהם לא רק הרחבה בכמות אלא גם הרחבה באיכות, היינו כלים מסוג אחר לגמרי, ויה"ר שלא יהי' בזה אלא חסרון בכתיבה אבל לא החסרון בהפועל בימי רצון והתעוררות דתשרי, ויומשכו על כל השנה כולה מתוך הרחבת הדעת אמיתית.

It is surprising that since your letter from the 19th of Elul, I have not received any news from you. The month that has just passed (and as is known in Chassidus—the interpretation is that one becomes a 'mover') is the general month for the entire year and is endowed with every good thing, as explicitly stated in Midrash. However, a person must fulfill what it says: 'Widen your mouth'—to make broad vessels. It is explained in Chassidus that this means not only an increase in quantity but also an expansion in quality; that is, vessels of an entirely different kind. May it be G‑d's will that there should only be a lack in writing but not a lack in actual accomplishment during the auspicious days and awakening of Tishrei, and may these be drawn down for the entire year with true expansion of understanding.
