Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from the 4th of Elul, in which you write that since you increased in those studies I wrote about, you feel improvement but are not satisfied and not pleased at all because you want to become an entirely different person, etc., etc.
Already this matter is stated in Sefer Tanya Kadisha chapter 27 and onward. The matters there are said regarding beinonim (intermediate people), and in the level of beinoni as explained by Chassidus. About them our master the Alter Rebbe (author of Tanya—the halachic authority in the hidden Torah—and Shulchan Aruch—the halachic authority in the revealed Torah) says: "Let not a person's heart fall upon him," etc. It is a great satisfaction before Him, blessed be He above, through the service explained there—see there—that in the words of the Rebbe it will be with great joy, etc., see there.
In general, a person's mission is as stated in the Mishnah: "I was created to serve my Maker." What difference does it make what kind of service was given by the King of kings, the Holy One blessed be He? For even about the greatest service it is said: "If you are righteous what do you give Him?" On the other hand, even in the simplest and lowest service—it too is called mitzvah (from the word connection and attachment), through which one connects with the Essence and Being of Ein Sof blessed be He. It is a pity for time spent searching for purpose when it could be used to influence others with joy—which includes also one's own body and animal soul—and when this is done with joy, success is great and visible even to physical eyes.
May it be His will that you also influence your friends in this direction; through this, help from Heaven will increase for your own service.
Regarding what you wrote about contemplation before prayer—it is difficult to explain these matters in writing. Try to speak with elder Anash mashpi'im daas Chassidus who are in Eretz HaKodesh may it be rebuilt and established; they will advise you.
Blessings for fulfilling the general and constant commandment: Serve Hashem with joy! And for being inscribed and sealed for good.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that true spiritual growth comes from serving G‑d joyfully regardless of one's perceived level. Instead of focusing on dissatisfaction or seeking radical change, one should use time positively—influencing others and oneself with happiness—and seek guidance from experienced mentors.
