קבלתי אגרתו, וכבקשתו, הנה בהיותי על ציון כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע נשיא ישראל, הזכרתי את ... יגדלו את ילידיהם לתורה ולחופה ולמעשים טובים מתוך שמחה וטוב לבב, וכידוע הוראת הבעש"ט שנמסרה ע"י נשיאנו זי"ע ע"ד גודל ההכרח לקיים מש"נ עבדו את ה' בשמחה, ובאמת לאמתו זוהי גם הלכה פסוקה בנגלה דאורייתא גופי תורה, ועפ"י מש"כ המורה הגדול בהל' דיעות ונעתק בטור ומרן המחבר חלק או"ח סי' רל"א, אשר האדם עובד את השם יתברך ויתעלה בכל דרכיו, באכילתו ושתיתו וכו', וכל שאר הסוגים שמנאם הרמב"ם, שמזה מובן ג"כ שבכל שעות האדם עליו לעבוד את העבודה הגדולה עבודת השי"ת בשמחה ובטוב לבב (רמב"ם סוף הל' לולב).
ובימי סגולה אלה של הכנה לזמן מתן תורתנו, נגלה דאורייתא וסתים דאורייתא, אשר בדורנו זה מתגלה ומתבאר בתורת החסידות, יהי רצון שיזכה כל או"א מאתנו, כפתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, לקבלת התורה (הגליא וסתים) בשמחה ובפנימיות.

I received your letter, and as you requested, when I was at the resting place of my father-in-law the Rebbe zatzukal lehe nbg"m zya"a Nasi Yisrael, I mentioned you... May you raise your children for Torah, marriage, and good deeds with joy and gladness of heart. As is well known from the Baal Shem Tov's instruction transmitted by our Nasi zya"a regarding the great necessity to fulfill what is written: 'Ivdu et Hashem b'simchah' (Serve Hashem with joy), and in truth this is also a clear halachic ruling in Nigleh d'Oraita (the revealed part of Torah), the very body of Torah. As written by the great teacher in Hilchot Deot and quoted in Tur and Maran Mechaber Orach Chaim section 231: that a person serves Hashem blessed be He in all his ways—in his eating and drinking etc.—and all other types enumerated by the Rambam. From this it is also understood that at all times a person must perform the great service—serving Hashem—with joy and gladness of heart (Rambam end of Hilchot Lulav).
And in these auspicious days of preparation for the time of giving our Torah—both its revealed and hidden dimensions—which in our generation is revealed and explained through Chassidus, may it be G‑d's will that each one of us merits, as my father-in-law the Rebbe said, to receive the Torah (both revealed and hidden) with joy and inwardness.
