במענה על מכתבו מעש"ק. ולפלא שבמכתבי לכמה מאנ"ש מוכרח אני להזכיר ולעורר כ"פ על הפתגם של רבנו הזקן (אשר כ"פ נדפס ונתפרסם מכבר), והוא, דו זאגסט וואס דו דארפסט און זאגסט ניט אויף וואס דארפמען דיך.
ואין זה ענין של הטפת מוסר, כי הרי כשסיפר כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר את הנ"ל הוסיף סיומו שכאשר תיקן חסידו של רבנו הזקן הנהגתו בהתאם לההוראה, הרי הוטב מצבו ועוד יותר טוב מבתחלה, ולאחר שהודיעו את כל זאת נפתחו הדרכים להנהגה זו ותוצאותי' נקל הדבר לכאו"א מאתנו, ויה"ר שמכאן ולהבא יהיו מכתביו ובכלל מכתבי אנ"ש מתחילים בבשורה טובה מהוספה בשיעורים בלימוד תורת הנגלה ותורת החסידות ועבודת התפלה ובהשפעה בכגון דא על הסביבה, ואח"כ יבואו שאר הענינים, כי האלקים עשה את האדם ישר, שהגשמיות משתלשלת ובאה כתוצאה מהרוחניות.
כבקשתו אזכירו לפרנסה בהרחבה מתוך הרחבת הדעת, ולענין מסחרו שכותב אודותו.
כן אזכיר את זוגתו ואת כל ילידיהם שיחיו להמצטרך לכאו"א מהם כפי שכותב במכתבו.
ואחתום מענינא דיומא וכלשון כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר לקבלת התורה בשמחה ובפנימיות.

In response to your letter from Erev Shabbat Kodesh.
It is surprising that in my letters to several of Anash I must repeatedly remind and awaken them about the saying of our Rebbe the Alter Rebbe (which has already been printed and publicized many times), namely: "Du zagst vos du darfst un zagst nit oif vos darfmen dich" (You state what you need but do not state what you are needed for). This is not a matter of moralizing, for when my father-in-law the Rebbe told this story he added that when the Alter Rebbe's chasid corrected his conduct according to this instruction, his situation improved and became even better than before. After all this was made known, the paths to this conduct and its results were opened, making it easy for each one of us. May it be G‑d's will that from now on your letters—and in general all letters from Anash—begin with good news about increased study in both revealed Torah and Chassidus, prayerful service, and influencing others similarly in your environment; only afterwards should other matters be mentioned. For G‑d made man upright, and materiality descends as a result of spirituality.
As you requested, I will mention you for an ample livelihood with peace of mind, as well as regarding your business which you wrote about. I will also mention your wife and all your children for whatever each one needs as you wrote in your letter.
I will conclude with a matter relevant to the day and in the words of my father-in-law the Rebbe: to receive the Torah with joy and inwardness.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that we should express not only our needs but also our higher purpose. By focusing on spiritual growth and sharing good news first, we open channels for blessing in both spiritual and material matters.
