Shalom u'Vrachah!

It gave me pleasure to receive the news about the Melaveh Malkah being organized in your honor, on the occasion of your many years of activity in Agudas Chassidei Chabad and for the Lubavitcher Yeshivah. Such a gathering is important because it shows that the significance of this work and its great purpose is recognized and appreciated. It is to be hoped that this feeling will continue to prevail among the leaders and participants at the Melaveh Malkah and will be expressed in actual deeds—in an increased and expanded effort by each individual both generally and specifically.

Since this Melaveh Malkah takes place before the upcoming Motzaei Shabbos Kodesh Parshas Zachor, just a few days before Purim, this timing has an important connection with the event—as chassidim understand the expression that "one must live with the times."

One of the most important points that Megillah teaches us is that in those days, when our people faced great danger of annihilation G‑d forbid—men, women, and children for an entire year—they did not rely on their strong connections with royalty through Esther HaMalka and Mordechai who sat at the king's gate. Rather, they understood that salvation for our people lay in saving Jewish children. That is why Mordechai HaYehudi gathered Jewish children en masse and taught them Torah and mitzvos, as detailed in Gemara and Midrash.

Obviously, even more so today this remains true. Living in a free country where saving Jewish children does not require the same measure of self-sacrifice as before—and where opportunities are great—we must always remember that children are truly the future and salvation of our people—not only spiritually but also physically and materially.

Today, 9 Adar—the day this letter is written—is when my revered father-in-law the Rebbe zatzal arrived in America. He emphasized all of the above to American Jews by immediately founding Lubavitcher Yeshivah and other institutions for proper Torah education—even before he had rested or settled himself here in any basic way.

On this occasion I wish to mention that you Reb Chaim Zalman and your esteemed brothers have from the very beginning stood at the forefront helping with this work throughout all these years.

I wish you to celebrate many jubilees of fruitful work—ever increasing—which creates channels and vessels for Hashem's blessings both materially and spiritually.
