... מה שמעורר ע"ד עסקנותו של הרה"ח אי"א נו"נ עוסק בצ"צ כו' מוה"ר... שבמילא אפשר זה מפריעו משקידה בתורה כדבעי. הנה ידוע פסק רבנו הזקן (בתורה אור בתחלתו) אשר ע"י עשיית הצדקה (וצדקה דרבים עאכו"כ) נעשים מוחו ולבו זכים אלף פעמים ככה, ומהגהות אדמו"ר הצמח צדק לדרוש זה שנדפס בלקו"ת לג' פרשיות, מובן שהמספר אלף הוא בדיוק ולא בדרך גוזמא, ובמילא עסקנות דצרכי צבור אי אפשר שתפריע ואדרבא מסייעתו.

... Regarding what was raised about the communal involvement of the Haraha"ch iy"a nu"n involved in tzt"z etc. Moreinu HaRav... that perhaps this interferes with his diligence in Torah study as it should be.
It is well known the ruling of our master the Alter Rebbe (in Torah Or at its beginning) that through giving tzedakah (and all the more so communal tzedakah), one's mind and heart become refined a thousand times over. From the glosses of the Admor tzt"z on this teaching, printed in Likkutei Torah on three parshiyot, it is understood that the number one thousand is exact and not an exaggeration. Therefore, communal work cannot possibly interfere; on the contrary, it assists him.
