ב"ה

B"H, Eve of Chanukah, 5732.
Brooklyn, NY.
To all participants in the annual dinner of Merkaz HaYeshivot Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch, may Hashem be upon them and grant them life.
Shalom u'Vrachah!
This year’s gathering takes place on the last night of Chanukah, the eighth candle. One of the fundamental lessons from Chanukah in general, and from Zos Chanukah in particular, is that all matters of light—all aspects of Ner Mitzvah and Torah Or—must always be increased, even if it seems (and it may truly be so) that everything possible has already been done.
We learn this from the mitzvah of Ner Chanukah: although on the first night, when one lights a single candle, one fulfills the mitzvah of Ner Chanukah in its fullest measure, nevertheless the law is that after a day passes, on the second night one must light two candles—and so on each night—always adding one more than the previous day. Even after seven full days of Chanukah have passed—each day having its own special quality in Torah and mitzvah observance—and one has fulfilled their obligation to the maximum each day, when the eighth day arrives one must not only avoid lessening their efforts but rather add yet another candle.
The festival of Chanukah is connected with the dedication of the Beit HaMikdash—as stated in our prayers: "And afterward Your children came to Your sanctuary... and lit candles... and established these eight days of Chanukah..." On various occasions it has been emphasized that every Jewish home’s mission is to be a Mikdash—a dwelling for the Almighty—a bright dwelling illuminated with Ner Mitzvah and Torah Or. But when does a home’s true character become fully realized? When new generations of Jews are raised and educated with pure Torah education so they can further spread the light of Torah and mitzvot.
This is also the main mission of Merkaz HaYeshivot Tomchei Temimim: to educate students who will bring light not only into their own homes but also into the world; never being satisfied with today’s achievements—even if they are complete—but always adding tomorrow and beyond, continuously increasing and spreading more light.
The same applies to those who support and assist the yeshiva. Even if last year’s support was given in full measure, since a year has passed since the last annual gathering—and especially as needs have grown—now an increased level of support is required. Therefore everyone should take a greater part in this cause—both financially and through active involvement—to personally contribute and inspire others to participate in Merkaz HaYeshivot Tomchei Temimim’s illuminating activities, always increasing as per the spirit and guidance of this radiant festival of Chanukah.
In this merit, Hashem will surely increase light in every Jewish home: both in Ner Mitzvah and Torah Or as well as literally—that there should be true brightness both materially and spiritually together.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that just as we add another candle each night on Chanukah—even after fulfilling our duty—we must continually increase our efforts in spreading light through Torah learning, mitzvot observance, and supporting institutions like Tomchei Temimim.
