Shalom u'Vrachah!
As we approach the new year, which is coming upon us and all of Israel for good and blessing, I hereby express my blessing to you and all that is yours: a blessing for being inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year in both material and spiritual matters.
With blessing.
P.S. Thank you for the letter from the 23rd of Elul and its enclosure. The request will be read at an auspicious time at the resting place of the Tzaddik, and may there be good news. Regarding my urging for prompt confirmation and response—mainly out of respect for you and the holy Torah of our master the Alter Rebbe (even though it was hinted at in my previous letter from the Days of Selichos).
Regarding what I asked previously about what is written in Likkutei Torah on Parshas Nitzavim regarding "Rosheichem..." (your heads...)—that there are ten levels enumerated, not as Rashi explains "Rosheichem Shevateichem" (your heads, your tribes) as one: "Rosheichem leShevateichem," but rather as separate categories. Note that according to Rashi, "veGercha" (the stranger among you) includes everyone from woodchopper to water drawer; thus Rashi counts eight types. As explained by our master the Alter Rebbe explicitly in Zohar II (82a). See also Gur Aryeh on this verse. According to Rashi it is clear: 1) What difference is there between your tribes and every man of Israel? 2) The change in language: from woodchopper to water drawer—and so forth regarding your heads to your tribes, woodchopper and water drawer—the explanation of "veGercha." According to Rashi one can understand the Yerushalmi at the end of Horayos—which is discussed in Tosafos on this verse. The explanation quoted in Keser Torah: "Rosheichem Shevateichem..."—officers over thousands, officers over hundreds, etc.—I did not understand this because where then are the Nesi'im (princes)?
Summary
The Rebbe sends blessings for a good year and delves into nuanced interpretations of Parshas Nitzavim, encouraging careful study of Rashi’s commentary and related sources to deepen understanding.
