Gathering of graduates from Chabad schools in our holy land, may it be rebuilt and established by our righteous Mashiach speedily in our days. May Hashem be upon them for life.
Shalom u'Vrachah!
As we stand in this month—a month of weeping on one side and joy on the other, a remembrance of the events of destruction and at the same time a month designated for double comfort, as its name Menachem Av implies—it is understood that the purpose of remembrance is to influence and bring about practical actions. The content of this remembrance is the matter of destruction and its cause, as explicitly stated in many places in Tanach and in the words of our Sages: "Mipnei chata'einu galinu me'artzeinu" (Because of our sins we were exiled from our land), etc. From this comes the conclusion that one must act to weaken and diminish the cause (our sins), thereby weakening and diminishing the effect (our exile), bringing closer the complete and true redemption through our righteous Mashiach.
This gives a special role to youth—especially those who have graduated from school, even if they move on to another school—for being a graduate itself shows maturity and a certain level of independent understanding. At the same time, youth naturally reject compromise or resignation to circumstances or trends.
This is particularly true for graduates of Chabad schools, whose essence is to approach everything with inner depth and vitality illuminated by the light of our Torah—the Torah of Life—both its revealed and inner dimensions.
The special task for youth is clear: first and foremost, they must themselves be living examples in their daily conduct—careful observance of Torah and mitzvos—and also influence and promote these values within their surroundings according to this spirit.
We are assured: "Habah l'taher (one who comes to purify)"—and as emphasized by Rabbeinu HaZaken: "litaher u'letaher" (to purify oneself and others)—is assisted from Above. Through this, each will do all that depends on him to hasten the end of our exile and bring closer the coming of our righteous Mashiach and our redemption. Then we will merit fulfillment of the prophecy that these days will be transformed into joy and gladness.
Blessings for outstanding success in all their endeavors, and for good tidings in all mentioned above.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that Chabad school graduates have a unique mission: by refining themselves and inspiring others through personal example, they help diminish exile's cause—our shortcomings—and thus actively hasten redemption. Their commitment brings comfort and transforms sorrow into joy.
