Shalom u'Vrachah!
With pleasure I received the news just now that you have already returned safely to our holy land. In continuation to my letter before your trip—which surely arrived on time—I express my wishes that it be G‑d’s will that through the merit of your journey you fulfill your obligation for all the coming months and years. From now on may only good—visible and revealed good—befall you in all your matters, both communal and personal alike.
As we approach Pesach, the Festival of Matzos—our season of freedom—which is coming upon us and all Israel for good and blessing, I send you and all yours my blessings for a kosher and joyous Pesach, and for true freedom from anything that confuses or hinders serving Hashem with joy and gladness of heart.
With esteem, honor, and blessing,
M. Schneersohn
In connection with this being the centennial year since the passing of our master the Rebbe, the tzt"z—and these days are his yahrzeit-hilulah—the Arizal explains regarding such occasions the verse "VeHayamim HaEilu Nizkarim VeNaasim" (Esther 9:28; "And these days are remembered and performed")—that if the remembrance is according to Torah (i.e., as required and in depth), then all influences and illuminations drawn down at that time are drawn down now as well. Therefore it is appropriate to study a maamar from the one whose yahrzeit it is—as listed in the index booklet—which he said in the days before his passing. There is no more fitting remembrance for a prince of Torah in both revealed and hidden aspects than learning his Torah: a maamar blending both nigleh (revealed) and nistar (hidden) teachings.
And as brought in this maamar—"In Nissan they were redeemed and in Nissan they will be redeemed" (Rosh Hashanah 11a; "BaNissan Nigalu U'VaNissan Atidin LeHigael")—and its author emphasizes that only this opinion appears in Midrash. May it be G‑d’s will that this redemption occur this very year—which is a Shemitah year (Afpakta d’Malka)—when it is proclaimed and demonstrated in actuality that "the earth belongs to Hashem."
Summary
The Rebbe encourages marking anniversaries by studying relevant Torah teachings, especially those blending revealed and mystical wisdom. He connects personal blessings with collective redemption, highlighting Nissan’s power as a month of liberation—both historically and for our times.
