Shalom u'Vrachah!
I received your letter in due time, and for several reasons my reply was delayed until now. I hope that by the time you receive this letter your mood has already improved.
I am directing my response to coincide with the conclusion and seal of the month of Nissan, which is the month of freedom and redemption—this obviously includes personal redemption from all confusing thoughts and matters—and as preparation for the month of Iyar, which is the month of Ziv (radiance), as our Sages explain that radiance and light increase in our world during this time.
It is clear that my intention here concerns you: now is an opportune time to increase G‑d's blessing for your success in all matters, beginning with strengthening your health in a literal sense. When a person takes even a small action in this regard, they are given and granted many times more blessing from Above. The primary action a person must take is to strengthen their trust in Hashem and contemplate His providence—His individual supervision over every detail of each person's life. The immediate conclusion from this is not to pay attention to thoughts that arouse worry or sadness, especially as explained in the teachings of our Rebbeim—the teachings of Chassidus—that sadness is absolutely rejected. This rejection should not be through internal debate or bringing proofs, but rather by diverting one's attention and not focusing on such thoughts at all. If it is not easy to rid oneself of them, one recommended strategy is to occupy one's mind with matters entirely unrelated to the previous thought—not even for the purpose of rejecting it—but something completely different.
Furthermore, since everything should have some basis in natural means, it is appropriate to consult a doctor and follow his instructions. As for which doctor to approach, consult your family physician. Do all this with strong confidence—in the words of David HaMelech, the Sweet Singer of Israel, on behalf of every Jew: 'Hashem Ro'i Lo Echsar' (Hashem is my shepherd; I shall lack nothing), 'Hashem Li Lo Ira' (Hashem is with me; I will not fear)—and may you have health and a happy heart.
Blessings for good spirits and good news in all mentioned above, and regards to your parents.
P.S. I wish that this letter be received still during the month of Nissan—at least by Rosh Chodesh Ziv (Iyar)—so it was sent express mail. As our Sages explain: see Rosh Hashanah 11a.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that overcoming worry or sadness requires both trust in G‑d's providence and practical steps like seeking medical advice. Redirecting one's focus away from negative thoughts leads to greater inner peace and opens one up to increased blessing from Above.
